What about the USA? That's not a monarchy.
I'm amazed at my own stupidity sometimes.

Yeah, actually it was in China

reports of his statements that have been construed as tactless, most notably a 1986 comment in Beijing, during a State Visit to China, that exchange students might “go native and come home slit-eyed”. from http://www.britainexpress.com/royals/philip4.htm

i think the monarchy cost £88 million according to
http://yedda.com/questions/4956441141021/
so £88mil / 60mil people equals £1.46 a year.
prolly cost more to pay a design company to come up wi a british logo an sort out stamps.
i think £1.46 is fair enuff to keep em out of the way and in gin.

You can't think of a better way to spend £88million a year? :o

I hope to see the abolishion of the monarchy in my life time.

I say we loose United Kingdom altogether and just go with Great Britain, redefining the position of Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland, Isle of Man, Scilly etc etc etc so we just have one bloody name and everyone is happy. That way we have a better chance of building a good society.

How many citizens of these Isles actually know the difference between GB and UK? I don't and i literally looked it up five seconds ago... I blame the Queen. All i know for sure is I'm a South Londoner.

I think that people should be more bothered about the big multinational (Well, mainly American) corporations that are busy churning up England and sucking its individuality away from it bit by bit, rather than a bunch of old inbred farts doddering about in crumbling castles.

Throw out all the Yank fast food chains, all the coffee chains, Tescos and all that poisonous crap. Encourage permaculture, encourage manors and estates who in turn encourage the artisans. Slay the consumers and brand worship. All hail the great king Ludd.

We can call it Albion.

What what?

:)

Well, yes, but no.

Sure, you do damage to a company by refusing to consume its product. But by doing that, you're not really a consumer any more because you're not consuming.

Well said.

We could become the United Republic of Britain - or URB for short.

The commemorative plate industry will die out without the monarchy - think about the amount of ex-potters selling the Big Issue whydoncha

Those soldiers with the big hats might have to go and die in Iraq or something instead of standing around all day too :(
