fess up?, cos when i went to get my macbook fixed there was a big
sign saying "Macbook Pro Battery Replacement Procedure" cos they must be sick of having to sayy the same things over!

Take the battery out when your using it at home with the power adapter. This saves battery life and keeps everything cooler.

i had an ibook for nearly 3 and a half years. this wonder machine went everywhere with me (camping, raves in forests, cuba and more) it finally gave up and the motherboard fucked itself. other than that i had absolutly no problems. just bought a macbook pro 17 inch jobby, completly jizz worhty. i tend to steer away from pc's because i dont understand their backwards logic. stick with a macbook

I'm planning on getting a Macbook sometime this year. I got a G5 late last year and it makes all the difference having a DAW that doesnt crash right in the middle of working on something.

If ure pc keeps crashing maybe something wrong with it
I myself built my own pc a few times over and its usually a gd reason for a crash . either being pushed too hard , over heating (down to poor basic cases) , or settings of pc for example my pc will crash if ram timmings are not set properly . i have pitted my pc againt a new 2.3ghz c2d imac and my pc owns on bang for buck , for half the price hahahahahhahahahah. and its more stable at 40% speed increase can u do that with a mac?
Mac's are well enginerred pc there coling is thought into alot of detail throughout if u buy a pc with same thought gone into ie custom built it will outlast anymac as of upgradeabillity flexibillty loads of things do u need me to carry on

Just turned to the dark side - bought a macbook pro 2.33 dual core and Logic Pro. Bye bye elderly pc and ageing logic 5.

I personally would stay away from the MBox but thats me. I dont like Pro-Tools for producing, I prefer Ableton Live, so I got the FastTrackPro for $200 and have the option to go to Pro-Tools M-Powered if I want.

I have an iBook G4 (the last power PC Model) and have never had a problem making music or performing (with Serato).
When I do my Reload Radio show, I have Serato, Nicecast, Safari, Conversation and sometimes Audacity running, with no slowdown or crashes (except for Audacity, but its buggy-ness is documented as it will be forever in Beta). The only time I wish I had a bit more processing power than the 1.4 Ghz it has is when using Ableton with certain soft synths and a bunch of tracks open.

A MacBook should be plenty. I cant wait to get mine... and my iPhone, and a new video iPod, and a Tower with friggin 8 processors, and...

im thinkin of investin in a macbook though once ive paid for the basic setup i wont be able to afford any software for a while. my current setup is an old pc with a cracked version of cubase sx3 but as i understand things its a lot harder to get hold of cracked software for apple than it is for pc.

theres no advantage... the protools software requires digidesign hardware to record audio into it.... the mbox is the cheapest way of doing that... but its very limited... you couldnt do multitracking with it... recording a band or whatever...
the digi 002 is the next level up... which allows 8 mic/line inputs... and with the purchase of more hardware... up to 16 i think...
the mbox is the budget way, that still isnt really worth the money

linux ok. many preinstalled linux boxes for sale now so less headache.

you will need some sort of outboard soundcard/breakout box if you're using a laptop. you can work from the mini-jack out but eeeeeewww..

if your music career gets serious buying a copy of ableton is a small price to pay for a mac's stability. YOU DON'T WANT TO TRY A LIVE SET WITH PIRATED SHIT, i'm sure some will argue, but it's a great way to look like a douchebag in front of a bunch of people when you have to reboot mid set.

what does it do?

With a mac you only get one stereo output, which means you can't moniter what you are doing before it reaches your audiance. If your djing it's not that much of a problem.
You can buy pretty cheap usb/firewire cards that will inable you to moniter the signal before it goes out live to the people.
