sick thread, just had a quick scan thru, i just thought its worth mentioning the Icicle mastercass vid, i mean, its a dnb oriented tutorial but he uses reason (namely Thor) for his classic "tri-octave-sorta-detuned-whale" basslines, n its realy helpful in terms of mixdowns n stuff aswell, at least i found it useful neway, especially as i use reason (namey 2 thors in a combi) for my whale-esq bass
idk if anyone already mentiond this if so i apologise if so, id post a link but im not at home i wil when i get in if no1 else does
i dont think its on youtube, if remember right i think its a vimeo vid

Yea that was extremely useful!
I'm watched it several times already, just to be sure that I understand most of it.
Still, the things he does in Logic are pretty hard to understand for me, but it's a very useful tutorial nevertheless.
Here's the link:

Well im going to come out and sound like a noob but how is this dungeon any diffrent to deep dubstep 0o_ ? (talkin bout the J:kenzo ruffhouse track)
now the v.i.v.i.k tracks abit diffrent almost in reverse and nice atmos with a techno edge and side of thunking kick.

That's not really noobish actually.
I don't really know if 'deep dubstep' actually exists, I like to call it Dungeon because the name doesn't relate to dubstep

No offense to dubstep, but it's pretty annoying when people ask you which music you love and you answer dubstep and have 90% of them answering 'Oh Skrillex & Datsik?'.
Anyways, just as you can't really compare skrillex's basses to Excision's because they differ a lot, you can't really say that all Dungeon is the same.
I hope I don't sound like an extreme retard right now, but I think I am, as I'm extremely tired

Expanding on the z-plane filter idea discussed earlier, have hit upon a way of interlocking 4 filters simultaneously for some enhanced organic noodlings. Will have a fine tune tonight and try & get an .FLP file out w/ documentation.

It didn't really make any sense to me, as I am a Reason user.
Is this, or a similar, technique even possible in Reason?
I got Reason rewired in Ableton as well, so I can always try it over there, but still it doesn't make sense

You have to connect 4 x/y filters to each other or what? haha

I need this in my life. You da man Wubster!!
On a slightly different note, is anyone up for starting a feedback circle for this sound? Where we swap tracks and techniques between ourselves and offer feedback? The dubs section is full of brostep and really shite remixes and Im getting zero love from it....... Let me know dungeon peeps!

This is a veeery good idea!
I've been making a patch for 2 days or so, but I have questions about it becoming more 'stable' and stuff, so are those posts welcome as well in there?
If so, that would be very awesome!

you can do this easily in ableton with grouped filters
pretty interesting theory,
many many thanks for the links wub

I think you need one of these to
start making dungeon in 2011.
For the record I don't even make it ( I play it out ) because I think its already saturated, I would just hate for such a beautiful thing to turn into the new filth...
And yes, I will troll this thread till it dies...

The reason its so good is cause its not as popular, trust.
Early tearout stuff was SICK! (Skream - Blipstream, for instance) and then look at whats tearing up the dancefloor now.
Look at the new Kryptic Minds album compared to the first.. Its awful! They seem like they're running out of ideas already.
Don't even get me started on some of the up and coming people who are making this sound, only around 3 of them make decent tunes.

Mind if you expand on this a little?
and yes even if a dungeon was the new 'flavor of the month' type of thing i'd be much happier. It's focused more on dark sounds and the SUB BASS which I find is the core of dubstep music IMO and I can't get enough of it!!!

What is the fucking point in this forum if you can't discuss about production without getting flamed?
People asking questions about Datsik get flamed because they didn't use the search function and people asking questions about topics that are pretty much unexplained on this forum get trolled by a fucking moderator because he thinks its already saturated...
This doesn't make any sense? I mean, why do we even have a production forum?
Oh, on a side note, you said:
legend4ry wrote:

So this means there will be 3 more decent producers, well everyone wins right?
You get more & better tunes and we learn about the art of production!
EDIT:
Not everyone started listening to this great music some years ago just as you did.
I'm sorry, but I only listen to it since last year's summer, but does that mean I can't express my love for this music by making music?
If my music turns out to be shit, okay I think I won't like that but you won't have a 'shitty' producer in the scene because I'll quit then

Honestly, I don't really know how you get confronted with all these up and coming not decent producers, but can't you just ignore them?
You don't HAVE to listen to them, right? Just listen to artists where you're comfortable with and don't mind the others.

Its not about me being a moderator - least I haven't locked it, just expressing my dislike for this AS A DJ AND PRODUCER.. not as a moderator, sorry for being democratic, should I turn into a fascist moderator and ban everyone who disagrees with me? Of course not thats just stupid, so next time maybe you should reframe from name calling and pathetic choice of statements and come at me with something worth reading.
Ive been into Dubstep since 2004-5ish and every single type of sound ive liked has been ripped to shreds time and time again, ive been pushing these sounds since around 09ish (the whole darker, twisted bassline stuff) and now its raising in popularity production standards are falling. So of course I want less new producers making it, sorry if that sounds horrible and none-accepting but i'd hate to go to a night and hear someone playing darker sounds which are not at the production standards of other stuff within the scene, it'll just make it die as fast as its crawled back from the hole that was 2007..
This is what happens when things raise in popularity - it starts small, production standards are high because if they wasn't no one would listen to it and it wouldn't break away from the pack. Then it gets bit bigger, the 2nd wave of producers come, sometimes the standard of tracks slack then by the 3rd wave everything is so 50/50 everyones looking for something else exciting, none of the originators want to be associated with it and then I cry.
I said this earlier - when Swamp81 started and Six Degrees came out it upped EVERYONES game, it made people realize "look, if we're going to make it in this sound we've got to raise our production standards.. This is what is exciting about 'dungeon sounds' its amazingly well produced music, while being simple musically and stupidly vibey and great on the dance floor - it reminds me of hearing Kode9s remix of Fat Larry Skank all over again!!
I'm not saying don't make it, i'm saying don't rush your music just because its the thing of the month! It has to be said that the majority of people at dubstep raves don't care about production standards or ethos and will brock out to anything what has a good b-line but do you really want you music to be that shallow? Aim for depth within simplicity. And I hand on heart will tell you - that doesn't come from reading how to make twisted basslines, thats only the start of it and least important thing thus making this just as bad as a datsik or skrillex thread because all those kids care about is a killer bassline.
I haven't once read someone asking how to get deep atmospheres what give 'dungeon' tracks there full sound or how to make simplistic drum loops what carry a lot of groove and depth or how the use of reverb EQing makes all the percs and one-offs sound perfect....So this is making me think they ain't 'getting' the tracks on a level they should be as producers .. Not offending anyone just don't want this sound to start slipping due to people not being so passionate about making it they want to make the next biggest hit which is better than the guys holding the crown at the moment.
Rant over and please use it as food for thought its good to see deeper sounds back in the club as headlining acts apart from just youngsta on the occasion so keep production standards high, don't settle for shit labels when signing your stuff and support it to its fullest. I know, as a producer I am not good enough to make banging 'dungeon' tracks, so I keep to my style but I whole heartedly support these sounds out live and anyone whos heard my sets from me playing out on this forum can back that up.
I am also not afraid to say I'll lose my niche for getting bookings......I am protective over it haha.
