All dark/agressive dubstep isn't brostep. The bassline frequency range makes a big difference.paravrais wrote:O.odaft tnuc wrote:No man this is definitely not brostep.paravrais wrote:What what. Can't have this. Brostep that actually sounds decent?
Never thought I'd see the day.
You're right, this is clearly folk music, my bad.
Although Koan Sound made more brostep tunes, this one is just not. That's probably why you like it

If you do keep thinking it is anyway, I know lots of brostep tunes you might like

Re: koan sound
One of koan sound actually posts here but a lot of people wouldnt realise.
I think koan sound have really nailed a pretty unique sound. Has anyone heard there non dubstep smashers? Look up "happy people" "crutial step" and "coast to coast", all up on there soundcard.
They arent really brostep (i really funking hate that term)

Re: koan sound
Seems like people only seem to notice the main mid range synths? I think the pad/lead work is really definitive of their sound... The reesey kind of stretched out bass is all pretty immense but the melody and sample work is so tight!
And mixdowns and processing blah blah blah *pulls my tongue out of multiple arses*
Summary: Underrated - nowhere near enough exposure yet.
Biggles the koan lot!

Re: koan sound
Koan is nice. Theres a bunch of russians doing nice neuro too, though more in the 170 range of course. In general I really like where neurofunk is going. It seems to be the only place where midrage bass actually has bass - if you know what I mean.
In dubstep or brostep (honostly no idea what it means) there's a lot of screamy, aggrassive un-ballanced midrange melodies passing as basslines.. Just adding a sub is not really making it a bassline. Just a lame melody with some sparse notes.
Still, Noisia still has a much more interresting musical output and production wise; noisia still sounds a lot more balanced. In my ears anyways.

Re: koan sound
I've always seen it being dictated by the drums. Once the drums loose all shuffle and are only there for KICK! .... SNARE! .... KICK! etc with various midrange wobblers in between. To me that's bro. If the tunes you posted aren't bro then nothing is.daft tnuc wrote:All dark/agressive dubstep isn't brostep. Pretty similar to this imo. Just because they have better melodies in their wobbles doesn't make it another genre. Just cos you have a pretty dog doesn't make it a cat XD

think its set to be the flip of 'trouble in the west' which an absolute smasher. One of the biggest tunes around at the moment
Re: koan sound
yeah posted this as my tune of the day yesterday. Asa, Culprate, and Koan Sound have carved out this little niche for themselve with their own kind of 'hard' and their own kind of 'soft' tunes.

Big ups, you two. I feel guilty for only recognizing how amazing your sound was from the Inspector mustache mix. But you guys are definitely great. Good work on getting your Ed Sheeran remix on his EP.
I just want to know who inspires your musical taste? Do either of you play the guitar? Because a lot of your work sounds inspired by Tom Morello-like guitar riffs. Keep it up, lads.
