I'd just like to chime in and say that this issue has plagued me for the longest time, and the solutions given here definitely helped - right from hitting the CPU icon on the upper right to using DirectX instead of the ASIO drivers. In fact, the increased latency is well within acceptable limits for my (and I assume a lot of others') usage needs, and if ever you require minimal latency (such as when you're recording an audio part from an external instrument), you can always switch to the ASIO drivers for that particular scenario and switch back to the DirectX drivers afterwards. Works like a charm.
Thanks!
