i've got two saw waves, res about halfway up but i'm missing the grittiness, is there distortion needed in there?

to add to this, i would like to know how to make the bass sound from the start of the vid, also. in fact any of these "acid" sounds that are big right now, i havnt a clue where to start!

I made a patch exactly like that last night by accident.

What it is is some Square waves detuned, with a pitch LFO that has a medium to long attack.

You can mess around with the octaves and waveforms, like add a saw in there or something and fine tune.

what synth were you using?

FL's 3xOSC. It's a really simple synth. I don't think you can get it for Logic (or anything else besides FL) though.

You can do it with pretty much any synth though.

the one i'm talking about starts at 1:15, but its used in a sick way at 1:45, at 1:59 and randomly throughout the song
its kind of like a wobble but almost like the synth is going ooowww
such a cool synth and been wanting to make it for a while but no idea how, its more than just an lfo and pitch bend

Hey All, I have been learning to produce dubstep for the past 6-8 months and have been constantly searching for a very specific synth, I have provided two songs to illustrate the type of sound Im aiming for, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CrrsrAyQ9w, the synth I am trying to shoot for is right at the drop at 0:55 in, Any Ideas? Furthermore I was also interested in the synth in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7RbkOCX8cU right at 1:09. I crave that thick (slighty filthy almost nero like) synth that Is more popular in the developing "melodic" genre of dubstep. I came here hoping someone may be able to assist me, or point me in the right direction. Anything helps, thank you all very much in advance ! Cheers-
P.s. I currently am using Logic pro 9, massive, fm8, absynth 4, and rob papen Albino 3 to name a few.

Sounds like some filter automation to take out the higher frequencies of the acid squelch and then gradually roll them back in as the tune progresses. Apply a filter to the acid and try different settings/sweeps on that.

Got redirected to this thread so let see if this works. Trying to figure out how to make this patch and not really getting close.. im detuning saws, it has to be more than that? 1:45

Detuned Saws with some reverb and a band pass filter around the mid frequencies. Also Fine tune them apart.

id really try to find a tb303 vst emulation..

acid and techy stuff is all about experimentation.. any aggressive patch played stutterly would do im sure..

ya actually did, i come to this forum a lot and read a lot just havn't posted anything myself, everybody knows how to make the yoyy bass sound including myself but thats not what im looking for.. any suggestions other than sarcasm?

I cant help you make this sound. But im also interested in the synth from that xilent song, primarily the synth at the very beginning. I hear it in a lot of songs, it almost sounds like a funky mid sound with aftertouch or something. Any help from you guys would be amazing.

As for the song, I watched it three times and I don't have a clue which sound you mean.
The sound at 1:45 is totally different from the one in the beginning. (Not that I know how they create any of these electro ish sounds )

You got any suggestions for people posting in this topic as well? *hint hint my post*

Are raw sounding Jungle drums simply a chopped and re-arranged Amen break? Are there any other fundamentals other than layering and pitch bends?

I saw in one of the CM masterclasses someone advised dropping other drum loops over the top of the Amen as well, but I can't see how that'd work.

Theres quite a few breaks what are used in Jungle, actually...

But for the Amen, the best thing ive found out is having one set which has low decay so its snappy and another which has the low end EQ'd out with full decay and a bit quieter put them through a bus - add some character compression to glue em together.

I would also advice manually laying the drums via audio than midi (export each chop on its own) its a long-winded process in itself but I find midi-programming in a sampler is A LOT harder.

So do you suggest re-arranging through MIDI and then layering through audio? I did notice when I tried putting new kicks and snares in it started to feel a little 'off' and ruin the rhythm and flow a bit.
