as far as the OP question... it must depend on your i/o interface, no? Unless you're talking about the type of hifi system that plugs into your headphone jack, in which case the sub output is onboard the speakers or control station, so depending on what leads you need, and
What you've got going on by way of a crossover...
It ought to be doable so long as they're both powered?

but here it appears that one's done a bit too much reading ("look it up, anyone will tell you" etc.) ...
while the other has done more than enough doing, to tell us whats really up.

I just know that big long bass waves take more airspace/length to fully cycle before hitting your body/ears, so being right up next to them is less than ideal for experiencing the wave.
From that i deduce that you might get more power by spreading your sub placement across longer distance. Perhaps one on each side of you, as far away as comfortably possible. then you get sandwiched by the sub wave. Boooom!
i wasent saying place the subs close to you by any means. like you said its preferable to be a decent distance from any subwoofer to allow for the long bass waves to be the loudest. i was just saying that i think based on some research that it is best to place the subs together. and yeah i have done a lot of reading on gearslutz where i came to a conclusion that it seems mostly everyone has better results placing subs right next to each other...also someone did get into specifics in why it is better but unfortunately i cannot remember exactly why but i remember it making a lot of sense lol.

but i guess my opinion and a bunch of other peoples isnt necessarily right...but its what i think anyway and im sticking by it. perhaps someone would care to research the subject and post their findings here? prove me wrong :W:

yep n tbh ur probably right. on second thought having them hit from opposite sides of the room would probz just cause a bass trap shit storm, a central source might be more powerful.

I've seen bass bins stacked up in a venue but as far as PC subs go, many of their cones generally face down into the floor if im not mistaken, so stacking them might be a no-no.

to be clear i got nuthin against reading either. its just never a substitute for plugging the fucker in and seeing what happens.

yup that is probly 1 issue along with a few others. i just edited my post a little bit above btw. and for down firing subs you would place them side by side. i have been around subs for a while between car audio and venues etc. through experience and reading i have always been told to stack or place my subs side by side.

im not so sure just plugging er right in without any research is such a good idea...you may end up getting something for life.

i always do research first or at least use protection before i go plugging away.

both are pc subs meant for pc sound systems. they arent cheap, and 1 has slightly more wattage then the other. the room is decently sized about 10x10 feet.

what im wondering.. is there any easy way to connect the 2nd sub to be playing in sync with the first 1 thx.
would this be for just listening use? as I wouldn't want to be producing with sub woofers man. thats too much bass!

lyons238 wrote: not nonsense. look up anything to do with multiple sub placement. they should always be placed side by side or stacked...anybody will tell you that. and look at any proper gig, they will never have their subs spread out, they will all be side by side or stacked on top of one another, or sometimes a combination of both..
This is for a monitoring environment, not a club. The aim is even and non-hyped bass, not just powerful bass. Show me a professional mixing/mastering room using subs that has them stacked or side by side. Multiple sources even out the room response due to a more even excitation of modes. It really is that simple. I've physically done and measured it myself numerous times. Plus it's, you know... an acoustic fact.
plus he said his subs are different which would be even more of a reason not to separate them. then it would sound weird and off balance..
It might well do if you chuck them down and expect them to just work. However if you take enough time and care when setting up (position, polarity, phase, level etc), make some good decisions about how/where to cross them over then the overall result still has a moderate chance of being better than a non-sub or one-sub system. Whether it is worth the effort for this system I dunno, but if you are geeky enough... :glasses:

Edit - btw if you do want to give it a proper go then the bit in the Bob Katz book about setting up subwoofers is very good :)

Send a 35hz sine tone to one and a 42hz sine tone to the other. Place on opposite sides of the room. Sit in the middle and meditate. Achieve bass enlightenment.

go search/ask in gearslutz

http://www.google.com/search?q=+site:ge ... subwoofers

i suggest you dont use them all the time, better for reference than mixing
