actually, I was going on in my head about this very topic at work one day. you know, that thing when you stare at the celing and let your mind wander?
anyway, I got to thinking about how much more accessible dj sets are now. I was never really "Down" with underground music during the reign of mixtapes. I started looking at my harddrive and there are a huge amount of mixes in there of varying genres and lengths. I also noticed that some of them I hardly ever listen to because they aren't so good but I can bear to send them to the trash.
this led me to wonder, does easy availability of dj mixes have a negitive effect on the quality? it seems as though nowaday anyone, even me, could record a mix and put it up on the web and have anyone across the world listen to it. in the days of the mix tape there was only so far mixes could have gotten.
then I wondered what undiscovered gems could have been had in that day an age with a little bit of studious digging? would the average quality be the same? or has technological aided accessibility truely degraded the medium? or perhaps this increased availability just raises the total number of attainable products not necessarily the percent of quality.
then I started waxing nostalgic about the cassette tape and wondered what happened to all my mixtapes I made as a kid. Then I wondered what the feasibility would be of attaching a walkman to the aux input of my car stereo.
then I might just be out of my gourd and that I should probably get back to work.

Aw! I'd make you a tape if you were in Dundee. Or if I was in Atlanta. But not if you were in Dundee and I was in Atlanta. That would be a logistical NIGHTMAREinaya wrote:agreed. I'd love for someone to make me a mixed (cassette) tape to this day.paolo wrote:mixtapes are cooler than mix cds.
