Coki - Urban Ethics: digital release?

Kinda with the majority here. I hope it's just Urban Ethics and not other DMZ releases. Mala and Coki paving in the way with their DMZ imprint and what makes it so legendary is its vinyl only status. Exactly like Swamp81.

It wasn't vinyl only until a few years ago. I have a legally bought mp3 of Anti-War Dub off of Bleep. DMZ is legendary for the tunes.

Yeah I know this. Of course it's the music but it wouldn't be as legendary if we could all grab these tunes on Boomkat or Juno I don't feel. They deserve the limited status because the music needs to be appreciated in a way that having an MP3 on a hard drive doesn't allow.

I think it was more the limited presses (and subsequent insane second-hand prices) than vinyl vs. digital. At the end of the day, I think this a great thing. More people get to hear DMZ tunes, more DJs can play them out, more people can support Mala & co. I hope that the back catalogue gets re-released digitally too as I would kill to be able to listen to get Lean Forward and Left Leg Out.

I dj with cdj's and buy plenty of cd albums and download (buy) plenty of tunes. However, when there are tunes that i truly love and have been waiting for for TIME, and they don't get released digitally, i will buy the vinyl, both out of support and the fact that i will buy at least one vinyl deck someday to play em on. So yeah, i bought the coki album and the mala album when they were first released, not so i can keep them for years and then sell them on for profit, but because i love the music and have been wanting to own it legally for years. Even though i'm a cd dj, the fact this has been released digitally actually pisses me off so much. Yeah, i illegally downloaded urban ethics so i can listen to it in my room, but i also bought the vinyl, and i would NEVER play out any tunes which i didn't buy legally. I really don't know what kinda conclusion i'm trying to come to here, i just think some things deserve to be exclusive to vinyl. 95% of dubstep now is available digitally, at least let some of it remain somewhat special. Before, if i went out and saw some random dj using cdj's or a laptop and they played any of this coki stuff i would totally lose all respect for that person. WTF, just WTF.

I'll just say that before I knew about dubstep and bass music in general,I was a tnuc who downloaded music for free on the internet and I was being a complete idiot about it(like saying to people wow! youre stupid you can download this for free on the internet!!)Then I've discovered dubstep and bass music and at the same time discovered all of the vinyl culture and the respect this scene has,and it changed me completely.I was mad not being able to listen to dmz exept in mixes and whatnot.So I went to my local music store,bought two stantons and an Ecler mixer.Started buying vinyl and DJing.Now I even produce and make tracks I can be proud of.All of this because of the DMZ crew and the Vinyl only policy that they have.So anybody saying that this is stupid and they should go digital think about it... Over the sales they will lose,If they convert 20 people like me to go buy all this stuff and to start to build a vinyl collection,then it's well worth it!
So all I've got to say is:

Think he means, since Robotnik is technically a tear out tune and that most 'tear-out' or 'brostep' djs use CDJs instead of vinyl, then it'll cater to them. I doubt thats the reason like but nice try!

I don't get why people feel that their vinyl is devalued because it's subsequently been released digitally. You bought a record, this idea that you paid for exclusivity irrespective of whether it was stated as on release just places a value on something irrelevant. I get that DJ's pay a premium to have stuff in the bag that others don't but the fact remains the less scrupulous are able to get the vinyl rips from the russian sites anyway. The tunes are out there let the artists profit and let the audience appreciate it.

I also get that there will be a speculative element who will purchase vinyl to make a profit on discogs but then I really don't see that as much of a loss and those that want vinyl will still pay a premium anyway.

For the rest the tunes aren't going to sound different because they've been released via other media you have the physical object and paid a price that you thought the tracks were worth for you.

Why release it digitally? No need whatsoever! To think I wasted my money and purchased a vinyl copy of this EP for a friend.

Bleep were selling completely legit 320s of DMZ releases for a limited time a while back...
