Two things;

1: Resampling is over rated.

2: Skrillex probably doesn't even do most of his own production.

We're all forgetting Skrillex can play multiple music instruments to a professional level.

He writes all his tracks first as sheet music (I can play Scary Monsters, lul). How many of you can say you do that?

It's a well known rumour. Deadmau5 is thought to get a "helping hand" by professional producers and mixing engineers and considering Skrillex is signed to his label and their production sounds *exactly* the same I'd say it was a safe bet that it's the same guy making the brunt of both their tracks behind the scenes.

honestly i didn't believe it at all but now i listen to tons of feed me tracks and it's like he just copypasted a few of his tracks together, let sonny moore sing and play a few melodies for him to work with and bam! there you go.
i mean okay, you could argue it's a bit like goldie who was responsible for the musical ideas on his first album but left the actual programming to his engineer. but i think this is different, it's not just the bass sounds that spor/feed me obviously took from his own project, even the melodies and stuttery edits etc, basically EVERYTHING that people consider skrillex' style are by him.

Haha, you guys are only just realizing that a majority of Electro/Progressive House tracks sound the same?

nah theres a difference between doing the same by the numbers song structures, the same melodic progressions, same riffs, same synth styles et cetera like everyone else in the genre

and applying the EXACT same fx-chains and sounds that no one else uses in the genre, the only thing that makes 'em unique.

Yeah, but they're on the same label, it's only natural you would hear similarities in their work. They collaborate a lot and spend a lot of producing time with each other.

Like Excision and Datsik, and the Rottun label.

Haha, just heard those examples. Oh snap, they're getting lazy.

Sadly I'd have to agree with the guy who said resampling is overated.

You really have to know what you're doing. You have to start with a good sound to get a good sound out. I hate how people say the Skrillex sound is a reece, put through a formant filter, with distortion, bounced, more distortion, bounced, more distortion, bounced, more distortion and maybe a bit of chorus, bounced, more distortion...

I just doesn't work, it ends up sounding like white noise!

I've managed to get pretty close. [I'll happily upload my efforts if anyone's intrested.] But I promise you... To get a good sound I first had to start with a good sound. :)

Bit of a newbie here and I might get shot down for this post, but i was listening to one of Skrillexs new tracks earlier:

@2:50 sounds like he took a sample of the announcer saying "Flawless Victory" in MK and FX'd the shit out of it :P

its kind of obvious its his voice that bass sound. in equinox when hes doing hia little vocal chops you hear the growls saying the same exact thing. mostly he just fx'ed his voice to make a bass.

I've got scores upon scores sitting on my piano just waiting to be used. Unfortunately I don't use them. I probably should.

Does he write his songs on guitar? A lot of his breakdowns sound like metal breakdowns.

i wouldnt know if resampling is overated, i dont come on here often enough.. however i resample most of the time & i pretty much know what im doing when i do so, i have been able to make skrillexy sounds on massive alone.. as well as resampling any bass sound. i find it bit easier to make complex sounds and with more variation when resampling :)
also there is nothing wrong with adding plenty of parallel distortion, also just layer the bass with earlier versions of the resamples and it sounds cleaner.
