nothing to do with vinyl, panned lows just sound very muddy. Same reason why you can't have too much frequency overlap in the lows.

That being said, i never really bother too much how i make things sound in a club. Mono in a club? Hm weird. I know stereo spreading stuff (manually, panning layers, stereo imagers sound like crap) makes things sound much BIGGER. Especially brostep basses. his basses are stereo wide as fuck. And that's where a lot of their power comes from.

For instance, when using wavetable modulation on very hectic wavetables, making the one side modulate one direction and the other one in the other direction can make reaaally big sounds.
