It wasn't that bad, although most of the questions ive had for years were not answered and now there are even more.

It really was that bad JBoy, I'm sorry.

The story is as retarded as, say, something written by the creators of LOST could be. Oh wait, he DID write this!! Seriously, the story is fucked up stupid and contains so many plot holes and conveniences it isn't funny any more.

There's absolutely no suspense or horror (I wasn't on the tip of my seat for a single second, I didn't pee my pants...nothing). The soundtrack is ripped from STAR TREK (and this really isn't a joke people). There's no claustrophobia. Character development is non-existent. Not once do you feel any empathy towards any of the characters. They come, they go, they die in very lame ways at the hands of very lame creatures. Thery are unaccounted for for minutes and then suddenly are back in the ship. I have no idea how big the crew was? Sometimes it looked like there were about 5 people on board, then there were 10...it's all very confusing. In the middle of the movie there's this gap where it seems like they deleted a few scenes and didn't bother with correcting things so that the flow of the movie remained constant.

And the legacy of the Space Jockey is forever fucked up. I think this was one of the worst cinematic experiences of my life. There was sooo much fail going around at once...but hey, it does like pretty nice...

And the ending totally blows and creates even more plotholes. Oh yeah, there is actually one Alien in it (as in from the Alien movies) and they even managed to fuck that one up.

I think it boils down to personal opinion and what you are expecting from the film! It was no way near as good as it could be but its still worth watching to decide for yourself.

Ugh I'm sorry people, I've been living in a cage these past months to avoid watching any trailers, anything. I was looking forward to this soooo much. But honestly, no. It's simply horrible. My two cents without giving away too many spoilers:

+ : Fassbender as David, great performance and the only character that's worthwhile, the only interesting character, the only character I felt something for.
+ : The Graphics: yeah a lot of CGI bullshit, but it does look fabulous in 3D.

- : the soundtrack: this is light hearted adventure stuff man. It seriously reminded me of the star trek movies from the Nineties
- : the plot. The plot tries to be too elaborate but if you bring it back to its essence: it's fail (and I mean that it is literally about a big fail). Because it tries to be a lot of things but is simply only one thing, there are plot holes, inconsistencies, conveniences...emerging everywhere. Also, the plot seriously contradicts a lot of Alien and Aliens elements.
- : The characters, I'm a big fan of the woman, but she's no Ripley. The other characters have no meaning in the story, they add nothing (aside from Fassbender). I don't even know how most of them perished any more, they all have about one line of text as well. They leave no impact and you couldn't give two shits about what happens to them
- : the space jockey legacy is forever ruined. I wish it could have stayed a mystery.
- : They fabricated certain scenes to provide flashbacks to Alien(s) movies, which comes a cross as stupid and unnatural.

My biggest grievance, is that they have completely HUMANISED the Alien universe, which is exactly what Alien 1 and 3 and to a lesser Extent, Aliens didn't try to achieve. There lies its main failure. The problem with expectations:

I haven't seen Prometheus but it does seem that people who haven't seen any of the alien films like it alot more than fans of the alien series.

Can't imagine I'm not the exception to that rule, but I haven't seen it yet.

People were flaming me on another board saying I compared it too much with Alien and I should watch it as a standalone movie. But you can't but help compare it to alien but that's what the creators of this piece of shit did themselves.

They copied the original Alien trailer for their own promotional use, even the original sound track. They promoted the story as taking place in the Alien universe. There's references to Alien everywhere. There's even tongue-in-cheek scene's and quote references to alien(s). But no, this doesn't take place on LV-426 and it's in a different time frame. Ok, fair enough: that eliminates 30% of the inconsistencies or conflicts with Alien or Aliens in this movie.

Now, how do you explain the other 70% of failures and plotholes? I'm tired of people defending this by blaming fans for linking this with Alien(s).

They announced it as a prequel, knew they were fucking it up and are now trying to cover themselves in making up bullshit statements that change nothing!
As you can see, I'm quite shocked by this experience. I have lost my faith in Sci-fi....

I just watched a preview of this on FXM channel and Ridley said "this is not a prequel."

it was entertaining enough but definitely a bit muddled, can tell its written by a Lost writer, left you with more questions than it answered

That's what I said, they ANNOUNCED it as a prequel and knew it was going to backfire and Riddley Scott, knowing he was being fucked over by that writer guy from lost, had to back off and started making statements like that.

so fuck if it's a prequel or not, what's the movie like on it's own without any external frame of reference?
what is of value and wisdom for one man seems nonsense to another.

confused, in parts very cheesy... unexpectadly so

some thematic links to Alien franchise, parenthood/motherhood etc.

weird pointless scenes in it

some of the actors in it are really shit too

really enjoyed Noomi Rapace's character though, got a soft spot for her anyway, Facebender is good too, creepier than the aliens in parts

visually its stunning

Joeki is spot on about the soundtrack though, absolutely no suspense in it, and some scenes that were already cheesy were made so much worse by the score, sci-fi by numbers and parodying itself

as i said, confused.

i'd give it 65% at best

What happened to bloody artistic integrity??
It seems like everything is just made to indulge the masses now.
