journalistic coverage so far has been pretty crappy. Noone is really trying to find out how it triggered into a mass riot or even much about the backstory of Mr. Duggan and how or why he could have been shot.

i wouldnt believe what the tv says so readily myself

whenever theres a story im actually close to i find the news reports full of innaccuracys and merely designed to keep people watching

my best guess as thats all i really have is that police shot someone without a weapon and people that knew them knew they didnt have one and are angered at what they believe is the planting of a weapon

and the news loves to show certain elements if they tie in to painting any kind of protest in a negative light so thats where the focus is always gonna lie

i tuned in to the bbc after seeing terrah danjahs fb thing.....what struck me the ridiculous questions the bbc anchor posed to the guardian journalist and the short blunt responses he had to make to get her to stop being an idiot....what kind of question is 'have you noticed an increase in gun crime in the area?' his response lol 'i dont know anything about that'

from what i could make out on the live footage all kinds of people were there from all backgrounds and many were angry

why would a riot occur if the police had done nothing wrong?

my assumptions were confirmed when it turned out a peaceful vigil/protest outside the police station earlier in the day was met with no answer whatsoever from any policeman regarding the investigation...i suspect that in a close nit community people that knew the 29 year old male know him well enough to know he wouldnt carry a weapon

also something i found strange was the news kept referring to it just being young people demonstrating, young people looting etc etc and the anchor EVEN refered to victim mark duggan as a 'young man' when he was 29...clearly on the screen you could a see mixture of ages from the live footage and 29 is not the age of a young man...surely she would have know his age so why does the bbc want us to think its just the scary demonised youth involvedin all this?

i rarely watch tv anymore...especilally the news..i stick to national geographic docs and dramas and stuff...i think my mind goes straight into filter mode and i try and see the real story behind the agenda

I doubt a 46 year old Nigerian man would be saying tasty...
but who knows.

This.

I read somewhere somebody said something like ''yes he was involved in stuff, but he wouldnt hurt anybody''. How many people ''involved in stuff'' dont actually hurt or have the capacity to hurt somebody?

It just looks like these people are looking for any excuse. Yes the police may not handle everything right 100% of the time, but I dont think they would go out of their way to shoot somebody just for the fun of it. The looting etc really doesnt make it look like they are protesting about somebodys death, merely using it as a diversion tactic.

tasty is a fairly common word. if he lives in the area, it wouldnt matter if he was nigerian, he probably uses alot of local slang.

geezers probably a bit tasty himself...

fair dos, i just don't know any 46 year olds who use slang. t and n aren't that close on the keyboard, so maybe it wasn't a typo.

why is everyone arguing about whether or not he said tasty? In this context it doesn't matter since tasty and nasty would mean pretty much the same thing. And just cos he's Nigerian it doesn't mean he isn't fully adapted to our culture. He's probably lived here his whole life.

dont start an argument on why there's an argument, just accept it, and stick your two cents in

for the record, he DEFINITELY said 'tasty' - scientific fact

Yesterday a 29 year old man identified as Mark Duggan was shot dead and killed in Tottenham Hale. According to an eyewitness, “6 unmarked police officers surrounded the victim in a people carrier that his friend was driving.” (according to police, he was sitting in a minicab) The eyewitness also reported hearing words like “Don’t move” and then saw them pull the driver out of the car. They don’t recall seeing the police drag the male from the passenger seat however they believe he was the one who shot. The eyewitness went on to say, “about three or four officers had both men pinned down on the ground at gun point. They were really big guns and then I heard four loud shots. The police shot him on the floor.”

They keep calling Duggan "Armed man" on the news...There is an investigation ongoing...why not wait until that's finished before you start banding about potentially incorrect information?

A pastor spoke alongside the MP and the Haringey Council leader...but I have not only failed to see his speech (commenting on how the 5 hours of peaceful protest got no only no answers from Police, but not even attention from anyone) repeated or mentions prior to the live stream on News 24. He seemed the only one trying to address real issues.

I quite like all the comments being made about the 'young people with their faces covered' How do they know their young people if their faces are covered?

Even if there was good reason behind the rioting, looting as far away as Wood Green is just taking the piss.

This is the thing, authorities will always say violence and property damage is completely unacceptable, because if you are in power and work in those circles you get stuff done through official channels and politics. For plenty of people though see that justice often isn't done and peaceful protests/letters to your MP and police complaints commission don't get you anywhere. Perhaps for the wrong reasons, but violent protest and property damage does get you noticed. If the system was working properly people would have faith in leaving things to the official channels.

But saying that, some of the protesters are obviously people just getting involved to do a bit of burning and looting, and burning random shops is shitty.

Grew up on that street, live on the Stokes Croft now, if it carries on like this the next riot should be Little Paxton, Cambridgeshire.
