Simply that at the time of Distance's early stuff you'd just call it dubstep. It's such a broad term now it makes sense that people need ways to refer to certain sounds. 'Dungeon' is still retarded though.knell wrote:dungeon just sounds like people trying to copy Distance's early work... don't even know why it's suddenly a new thing.

I personally dislike it almost as much as I dislike bro. I feel that it has the same attitude towards the sound in terms of just trying to make it heavier or deeper without concern for innovation or artistic integrity.

Did anyone else feel refreshed when Yunx did that oldschool set on Rinse? I have lots of respect for him as a DJ but I get bored of hearing the same sound over and over.

At least "bro" was a joke, this seems like a serious genre title lol/Naan Bread wrote:I personally dislike it almost as much as I dislike bro. How did I diss Youngsta? I even said I have lots of respect for him as a DJ. All I said was that I get bored of hearing the same sound all the time. That has nothing to do with Youngsta's abilities, it's just me liking more variety.

Re: Something I've noticed about Dungeon...
I think this is what people don't get. Bro was awesome back when it was just Datsik and Excision and Downlink. Then when everyone copied the style and started freaking out it started to get stale, and the focus went from the tunes to the 'filthiness'.NW DUBAHOLIC wrote:SloppySeconds wrote:now people are dissing youngsta?

Same things happening with dungeon right now. Yeah there's great stuff, and no one can deny that Youngsta and Seven and Kryptic Minds are ace, but when everyone jumps on the same boat, it's not so special anymore. It used to Be killer to be out for a night of neurofunk and all of a sudden have Kryptic Minds Ninth or whatever come on. I love sets where they jump through house, dungeon, drum and bass, purple, future garage and god knows what else. It just accentuates how awesome and original each track is.

'Bro' a.k.a heavy as fuck nasty dubstep, was awesome back when it was just Coki dubplates and you had to lock on to the radio, or go to a show to hear it. Now every tnuc is making that sound and its all over Youtube/Facebook/school buses.

I'm sorry, couldn't let that sentence slide. Excision, Datsik and Downlink didn't invent anything.
Anyway the whole subgenre thing is fucked. I don't see what's wrong with just putting an adjective of your choice in front of the word 'dubstep' - if people ask me what I play, I normally say "heavy dubstep" or "proper dubstep". Never gonna tell anyone I play "dungeon" cos they'll think I'm gay.

Or they'll think you're playing Dungeons and Dragons with small children.£10 Bag wrote:I'm sorry, couldn't let that sentence slide. Excision, Datsik and Downlink didn't invent anything.

Re: Something I've noticed about Dungeon...
If there's loads of the same tunes being featured it sounds like its in fact the opposite of over-saturated and there's not enough music which adequately fits the style.
Or perhaps they're particularly good examples of. I dont get it personally. Isn't it just really dark and sparse, like most dubstep?
