Thank you everyone! The problem is that I used the audio clip instead of the sampler. Simple noob mistake haha!

Also, anyone know how to do this in kontact now lol. seems im having the same problem. I load my sounds in the files tab on the top left but they want to play the entire length when i put them in the piano roll. only had this program for about a week and only messed with it once. im now sitting in class and cant really listen to anything while in here but have a 2 hour break coming up so hopefully i can figure out some cool stuff in it during then. any tips are appreciated though

Dig into the Kontakt manual, it's insanely powerful.
I just drag and drop, but if you use the browser it's the same procedure. In the sample edit window, switch to Sampler mode and then go to the Wave Editor tab and set up the loop mode. Adjust the loop section (yellow highlight on the waveform) and zoom in and make sure it's looping how you want.

Also, there is an envelope section on the bottom of the instrument edit window of Kontakt, below the Send and Insert FX. That will let you shape the sounds and stop it from playing the whole sound.

There's a few ways to do it though. Could also set up Kontakt to use an external editor like Sound Forge or whatever and set loop points/fades etc in there.

Btw I'm going by Kontakt 3. Not sure what you're running but version 5 is just out now, and it may be slightly different in 4 & 5, but should be pretty general.

Ah for realz? Well the range of control goes from 0 to 1. Input can vary from 0 to 1. If you are using input, you can alter it, like input/2, or input*.5, that will output control messages that run from 0 to .5, or knob position from all the way left up to 12 o'clock, or in midi parameters, from 0 to 63. If you want to keep the same range, but start it at another location, go input*.5+.25, that will give you the same half range, but starting at a quarter of the way through the knob's range, and ending at three quarters of the knobs range, or .25 to .75, or 32 to 96 in midi speak.

The thing to remember is that the range is from 0 to 1, so you'll be using decimals, but you can think of it as 0 to 100, just make sure to put the decimal in the right spot.

Just f4rted and it smells exactly like eggs.

ok, so input*.5+.25 would be starting halfway and going to 75 percent?

Right. Though if you're using the Peak Controller it seems easier to try to perfect the relationship that equation describes using the knobs. Personal preference probably.

Another way to do this is to go to the misc tab in the sample window and select the same numbers on "cut" and "cut by". This is the equivalent of ableton's "Choke" function.

If the sample cuts "1" and is also cut by "1" then anytime it's played it will cut off the last sample being played.

Similar question (FL sampler), was wondering if anyone could help me. Is there any way to play samples in the piano roll that automatically pitch shifts so that you don't get that nasty chipmunk effect when trying to play vocal samples like notes? Is that even conveniently possible?

Use the fruity granulizer instead. Does time stretch it. Just Pitches it up or down . Although it does color the sound a bit
