Is the note playing at different velocities on the keyboard than when drawn in?

you sure there isn't a note for 2 bars under your 8 bar note?
delete all notes.
draw them in ?
save a patch.
open patch in new project,
same thing happen?

My english teacher gave me a weird look when I mentioned that as the musical instrument I played. Like the wtf stare. I had to give her the 'wiki wiki' dj motion to confirm what i meant.

Same velocity.... :-/
I have to finish this song, but this is going to make me go crazy before then!
yep, same exact thing. This is killing mebrettheaslewood wrote:you sure there isn't a note for 2 bars under your 8 bar note?

I'm not sure what's going on, but for a quick work around you could just set the input of an audio track to resampling and record yourself playing it in realtime.

I did that too. I used the global recording or whatever and when I hit any key it sounds the exact same as if I were to draw it in.....
This is so weird.

Re: Can't continue! How to make ableton hold a note!?
Are you sure there isn't some automation somewhere that's causing the problem? If it only sounds right when playback is stopped and you don't have the clip set to loop, it seems pretty likely that there is something being automated. Is this a sample you're playing back in Simpler/Sampler?Dzanjin wrote:flex vector wrote:I'm not sure what's going on, but for a quick work around you could just set the input of an audio track to resampling and record yourself playing it in realtime.

I don't even have it set in a particular spot, I just have it at the end of my song just so I can test it. It is midi all the way, not audio in simpler/sampler, no automation, I can create it from scratch and make a new midi track, new midi clip, and then draw in the note and the same thing happens

I'm actually using a combo of a few oscillators in operator, a frequency shifter, a vocoder and a grain delay in one rack - of course with a compressor.

There's a screenshot for those who didn't want to download the vid.
Let me know if you see anything fishy. I just drew in a brand new note - a C1 and playing it on the keyboard sound completely different than when it is played back after the note is drawn in.

In that screenshot you have that clip set to loop after 3 1/2 bars. Is that what you want? Also, you might want to take a look at the oscillator envelopes in Operator to see if any of them are set to loop. Other than that I can't really think of anything else.

Re: Can't continue! How to make ableton hold a note!?
have you tried turning off the grain delay and seeing what happens?
situations like these best way to pinpoint issue is to keep stripping away at each layer til you get back to the most basic part of the sound i.e the synth where it's generated so you can workout exactly where in the signal path the problem is occuring.

I don't know what I was thinking or looking at, but I'm not using a frequency shifter, a vocoder and a grain delay, I must've been tired and looking at a different track or something. What I do have is:
Operator, Amp, Chorus, and Reverb
The length that I want this to play is the c1 for like 1-2 seconds and then a f1 for about the same. So it's a VERY short period of time. It's not like the sound slowly changes over time - it's an immediate thing that happens.
I will try again to upload my vid to youtube, last time it was going to take forever and then there was a server error

yeah easier than video is just show us pictures of all the different operator settings.

Re: Can't continue! How to make ableton hold a note!?
Sounds like you're using some sort of internal automation within an effect that is using a different phase on the notes for the 2nd pass.
Re: Can't continue! How to make ableton hold a note!?
If that were the case, why would it sound different from when I play it to when it is played back from being drawn in?Undrig wrote:Sounds like you're using some sort of internal automation within an effect that is using a different phase on the notes for the 2nd pass.

it took you 10 1/2 hours to upload 28seconds to youtube? jeeze!

yeah I know, it's ridiculous. Have you ever uploaded a vid to youtube? From a little searching I found most peoples upload time on a two minute video is like 5 hours and a 5 min is 10 hours.
That sounds crazy to me, just got an internet plan though and I'm thinking about calling them, b/c my upload speed on speed tests sites including the companies own website is super low.
Has anyone else listened to the difference in the video?
