Rent - generally a few hundred, depending on the deal & venue
Bookings - hundred or two for a local line-up, anywhere between 500 and 4,000 for an international.
Printing - hundred quid ish for a load of posters and flyers
Rider & beers etc - €50 ish depending
Decor etc - there's always little things you need to buy like a staple gun, or a load of black material.

So it could cost anywhere from about €500 up, but you should get it back on the door if you're any good at promotion.
Thanks for actually outlining the costs for me man. This looks doable if we do everything right

Now I'm starting to wonder, is there anyone in the LA area who would want to come play an hour if I get this going?
I'm in the LA area and would def be down to play a set if you actually pull this through...and don't worry I am reppin that UK Bass Ting! Leave the mids for the kids like Tunnidge says haha...

There's this female DJ out that way that I saw out here in the Inland Empire at a weekly Thursday night I go to. She sometimes goes by Crystal G on fliers and stuff and sometimes goes just by Muñeka. Hit her up, she plays pretty much weighty/deep tunes.

This is a mix she threw up a while back:
Soundcloud

Her Facebook:

Hope that helps. Also keep me posted or something cuz I'd be interested in attending a night such as this.

Their child lost a leg at birth and can't move as fast, but has a deeper voice for some reason

LA isn't saturated with dubstep nights?

weird...

the cost the other guy laid out are a bit over what i'd expect to pay.

if you are doing locals only no need to really spend anything unless the venue charges you. most places, if reputable, should be paying you, not the other way around.

flyering is pointless unless you have a headliner and just a waste of money in the long run, most people find them annoying anyway.

word of mouth and internet promo is really the best easiest way to get the word out. plus they dont cost anything and dont take that much time.

just my 2 cents...

So you wouldn't pay the local DJs?

I've never heard of a venue paying a promoter, unless they're not getting the door take, in which case they're getting ripped off.

Flyering helps, 100%. No matter what the night is. Restricting your promotion to your 500 Facebook friends/Twitter followers and forum buddies is just shooting yourself in the foot.

I've had events in LA and there is no simple answer to your question. The most common setup for an established venue is to have a bar minimum. You usually get the door and you need to cover anywhere between 1k-4k bar minimum if your guests don't drink enough. It's not a great deal if you haven't had an event before, But there are so many new venues popping up all the time you could probably set it up on a Monday or Tuesday and a lot of places would be happy to have a reason to get people in the door. Usually they aren't the hottest venues, but if it's really successful you can always move your party to a new place or just work out a better deal for yourself with the bar. Other than that, there's the cost of djs, you can probably get 5000 flyers for $100 and get started. Good luck!
