The trick is to not go with the preconception that it will be shit.

I have tried to go several times with that in mind, but every time a combination of the crowd/capacity/drinks prices and the fucking smoking ban just drags the whole experience back down for me.

I think it's room 3 that bugs me the most, because it's a mission to get do. Before the smoking ban, you could happily blaze up in there, I had my own little spot sat right at the top, legs dangling over the edge, leaning through the railings so I could see the DJ booth and have a little zoot to myself, still appreciating the music, speakers sweet spotting me...

...now if I wanted to do that, I'd have to spend 10mins navigating the corridors to get outside, queue up to get outside, stand in the fucking cold with my spliff, then fight my way all the way back up.

I could overlook the things about crowd etc when you could smoke a spliff inside, but tbh Fabric hasn't been the same since the smoking ban.

Saw Bukem & Conrad play a month or so back. Haven't kept up with dnb for a good while now but it was pretty special.

The smoking ban pretty much threw our bar out of business, so I hate it with a passion, but as someone with a short attention span, I do quite like the little milestones throughout the night in the cold air. Shame it just feels like you're cattle there now, though.

It was the same reason The End eventually closed...the 45min wait time to get out for a smoke was just diabolical.

So true. Fabric smoking area is a sheep-pen and drink prices are dumb.

One of my happiest clubbing moments - room 3 of Fabric, sometime in 2004 (I think?). Amalgamation of Soundz drop "I Shot The Sheriff" just as I've started to blaze.

8)
