it depends on the strand of green and the person smoking it, I focus like a madman when I'm high but my buddy couldn't focus long enough to read a page from a book. I always make a point to smoke a J when I'm going through and listening to any tracks I've made, feels good.

I like to get fucked up, and do fucked up shit to ableton...............................................................................sexually.................................while sitting on my hand for 5 min.............................................................................................stranger in the bathtub......................................................yes!

Just a couple puffs to put me in the mood, otherwise I'm too pessimistic and don't like my tunes.

for me it's either a hit or a miss... well lately I've been smoking straight from the skillet (concentrates) and it basically makes me pretty unproductive for the most part (except for studying and getting school work done ????? kinda backwards right??????). I come up with some really cool stuff don't get me wrong (probably through experimentation), however I feel I get more work done sober.

Sometimes I'll complete a tune baked out of my mind, and the next day I'll listen to it and be like what the fuck? and other times it's like dam? I did that?

Check out the EL-B masterclass video, he just takes a couple of puffs and puts it down. No need to be doing bong loads the whole time. That's what I mean about using it as a kind of tool to help. It's nothing new, been used like that for centuries.

I completely agree. I don't like to get totally blazed usually, just a couple of puffs is enough to make you feel a bit irie and creative.

I just focus, focus, focus. I could sit there for hours and think of material. I mean, I can do this sober too I suppose. Can't mix objectively stoned though, that's for god dammed sure.

I've been studying software engineering and I always smoke before writing code. For some reason I can just crank out awesome code while I'm high. Debugging is a whole nother story though, that stuff sucks when your high.

I record the first melody I come up with, listen to it for 2 mins, get annoyed by it, switch off my computer and start watching TV.

well, it depends... i've tried writing music from scratch once or twice while high and it was crap.

BUT, one night i was working on a mix for this dub track by my band and i've been messing with it for days previously, without really nailing the mix. so i got high and just got incredibly focused (lack of which is usually my biggest flaw while producing). added quite a few details i really liked, some sweet delay automation and everyone loved it tomorrow. thing is i worked on it since midnight until dawn and time passed like half an hour.

obviously, it doesn't work for me when i have to create something new, but it may help if i'm stuck with a certain track.

but the main side effect, as someone mentioned before, is that you won't realize that you've been messing with the same knob on an eq for like 15 minutes. that, and those silly moments when you're like AHA, THAT'S A BRILLIANT IDEA and then 10 seconds later there's no chance in hell you'll remember what the idea was.

if i light up a joint while producing i end up just gazing into the screen with red eyes.. not realising the bit i was listening too ended 7:24 minutes ago and i've been day dreaming, then i go on youtube and watch arty videos of celotape flying around a small box till i sober up

My former roomate is exactly the same. Also, this speaks to creation vs. mixing when applied to music I think (i.e. left vs. right brain).

True, I like to start a song by making some basic instruments or tweaking some patches, then smoke and play out some melodies and bass lines and all the fun improvisation stuff. Then eq/tweak sounds and mix once I've sobered up haha

i smoke when i produce, just because thats how i roll, but like many others here, i'm stoned most of the time anyways so it doesn't effect me. It tends to help ideas flow better, but, as everybody has said, you can end up eq'ing a kick for 4 hours and get nowhere hah.

I like to smoke and listen to some good mixes or stuff i'm into that will get my creativity flowing, then i'll be coming down and get to work on the ideas i've been mixing around in my head.

......this is pretty damn stupid thing to ask. If you are good at music your are good at it, no drug is goin to help you get better. I use to smoke but don't anymore cause it wasn't having good effects to be perfectly honest but it never made me better. Its just about being in the moment and gettin the creativity flowing, not about what drugs are in your system while your doing it....

Why I do is record myself beatboxing my ideas when I'm stoned and then actually making them into songs once I'm sober.
Get the creativeness from being stoned and good workflow from using your daw sober

I consider dubstep to be the ultimate stoners music, and if your not high you'll never really get it. to this end i always produce when I'm blazed or have been beforehand.
