I think most new shoegaze is quite boring (except for a few bands such as Experimental Aircraft), but you can't go wrong with old school shoegazing..
Woah man, that's my favorite Slowdive tune. Mad underrated.

Like.. "classic shoegaze" wise, I only like My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive. Most shoegaze is really shitty gimmick rock where songwriting is replaced by decent drones. But, there's like a lot of shoegaze influenced shit out there that kicks major ass. Like Bark Psychosis

Seeing MBV live was as close to a religious experience as I'll ever get.
talking about underrated slowdive...

MBV are still touring. i'm seeing them at melbourne's ATP in february, i've heard that they play unbearably loud but this thread has gotten me excited again

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkHmOYl5sEw

it's too bad this genre is filled with a fuckload of poor filler. there's only a handfull of good genuine shoegaze bands, but they're all amazingly good.

Pygmalion demos > Pygmalion

I kinda feel like they left behind 'shoegaze' after Souvlaki tbh.

i actually feel like that pygmalion gives an indication on where shoegazing would have gone had original bands keep on going though. both mbv and slowdive seemed to embrace electronic sounds in their latest tracks/records (see soon and the andrew weatherall remix for mbv). it would've been interesting to hear what could have come out of such an evolution i think... this track for instance is sheer beauty

unrelated, but another great shoegaze band that hasn't been mentioned yet (i think)

+ one of the only good recent shoegaze bands:

Recent band i like :

There is also a documentary about creation records (My Bloody Valentine, Jesus And The Mary Chain, Ride, Primal Scream etc.) called Upside Down, haven't watched the full thing yet but seems nice!

Dunno, it felt more like a post-rock record. Shoegaze will always be guitar pop to me. And the whole atmospheric shoegaze + post-rock and electronic stuff was done a lot by like.. Bark Psychosis and Seefeel.

i was in a shoegaze/'slowcore' band last year, we never really got round to doing any proper recordings but we recorded our last gig from the mixing desk just so we had something. the sound's not great but i still quite like listening to it every now and then.
