Re: How did you discover Dubstep?
I'm not going to write a long story but respect for those who do.
I allways loved alot of bass and at the time I was listening to reggae and Dnb and some other mucis styles.
One of my girl friend thought that I would like her favourite track and I did. It was Emalkay - When I Look At You.
That's how the introduction to dubstep began. I still love Dubstep and Brostep, thought I can allmost never listen to a Brostep track more than once or twice.

After listening to punk/grind/hardcore for years, I started listening to Drone and stuff with low frequencies and kind of stumbled across Dubstep. Was drawn to this because of the community and DIY vinyl aspect.

This x100. The concept/idea behind a few brostep tracks actually aren't horrible, but most are very formulaic. Sure it's fine to dance to, but I can't listen to it over and over like I do to some deeper tracks
Re: How did you discover Dubstep?
I was into hiphop. Heard about Burial on some hiphopforum. Liked it. Heard that the music Burial was doing was called ''dubstep''. Asked one of my mates for more dubstep artists. He told me to check out Rusko. Didn't like it. Did some more research about Burial. Found out about Kode9. Liked it. Found out about Digital Mystikz. Liked it. Went on dubstepforum. Was pleasantly surprised about the music people were discussing on here (I thought that everyone on dubstepforum would be Rusko and Doctor P fans at first). Read the ''new to dubstep topic''. Listened to a lot of Rinse FM (which I already knew because I liked grime). That's pretty much how I got into dubstep
Re: How did you discover Dubstep?
i can't really remember, it was a fair while ago, started with skream..
but, i got introduced to brostep by Busy P, he played sweet shop hahahahaha, it was funny.
pretty happy to have heard the original sounds first, although, will admit, with the rush of brostep that came through/is coming through, my love and passion for the more orignal sounding, or old school, if you will, is only getting greater by the day..
big up, sweet topic

Re: How did you discover Dubstep?
walked past a bar in 07 that had these 2 guys spinning vinyl to an empty dancefloor. Did a poo and ran in and asked what it was and they said it was called dubstep. later on that week my friend linked me to Haunted on youtube, and then ended up seeing Mala play that year.
it was on.
it was on.

Someone played me Skream - stagger when i was in college in 2006, then someone took me to Turbulence at Digital Newcastle Lineup was Skream headlining second room playing old school vibes, Noisia first room tearing it up.

i went to a small party in my town that invited headhunter, ramadanman, Ben UFO for the first time in belgium and i did get hooked at the end of the night to the music + that was the best dubstep night i ever attended.
It's about dropping a track at the wrong speed, and it sounding better than the real thing.

Re: How did you discover Dubstep?
I was on itunes store just trying to find different kinds of artists who produced tunes with amazing bass and then came across Tectonic Plates...and the first song I previewed = Slang by Mrk1.
I then listened to System by Loefah and Bahl Fwd by Skream on same album and I was sold.

Re: How did you discover Dubstep?
Back in 07 someone posted this rusko dubstep mega mix on another forum, saying it was dubstep, a mix between dub and electronic music. Instantly fell in love with the mix, got a hold of some others and got hooked. Used to blast around the high school parking lot bumping fabric 37 and the scream essential mix rippin bowls. I live in the states, so I was the weird stoner guy listening to that techno music. "Nah man, it's this new shit from the UK called dubstep, just get stoned and listen to this, trust me." They didn't listen. 5 years later and now all people who laughed at that weird techno are shitting themselves over skrillex and are total dubstep experts (sarcasm here). 5 years later and I still can't get enough of the true shit and even starting collecting/mixing vinyl. So glad I decided to listen to that rusko mix because it turned me on to the sound that I truly love.
