Re: Deleting Facebook
i don't have the luxury of deleting FB. i wouldn't be able to keep up with whats going on abroad (very isolated up in hurr) or my friends/family as they're all dispersed throughout planet earth. besides i enjoy it. just delete people who post really shit stuff, that's my mantra and it has served me well.
edit: oh and just don't post shit that you don't want the world to see. i avoid pics with bongs..alcohol..club nights etc solely to keep the appearance of a well behaved lady. i don't use it to document every facet of my life though i think that's ridiculous, so there's nothing to hide if the corporation wants to keep the info. can't pin nothing on me.

deleted mine ages ago, dont really miss it either it just started to annoy moe
the ONLY thing i miss loads is perving on girls and the big one: not being able to see all the pictures from nights out
apart from that, life is good without it.
delete it and get twitter

I knew someone would say that. Of course its no real hardship, less convenient rather than inconvenient I guess. If you are having something like a birthday party and telling your friends a time and place then its much simpler to do that in one go on facebook with a link rather than doing that for 95% of people but then having to think about who wasn't on the easily available list, then go and re-write the whole thing as an email with links to the location and make sure you have the right email address (not an old one or work one), log on to emails- write- send- get individual email replies etc etc.
Its just a bit of extra hassle that they have caused you and could have been avoided if they had a blank account, but yeah, no big deal.
i know i'm the minority here and i do understand the benefits of fb
but i've personally gotten to a point that if they don't want to give me a call or text, or know my email addy by now, i don't wanna hear from them anyway
Thats why i'm available by phone .. so people who want to tell me things can call me and talk. even "Hey did you hear about the thing, yeah get the time and place from whats-her-name.. ok bye" ... its not hard. And verbal conversation is getting lost and forgotten, which i think is really bad.
Also the fact that i never want to go to the shit they send mass invites to anyway... So yeah, as per just deleting the stnuc you don't care about... i did. All of them, all at once. including my tnuc of an internet profile "self".

Re: Deleting Facebook
Some of you guys are talking about Facebook like its essential to life. Do you not remember life before Facebook? Just make up your mind. Do you really need to come to a forum and ask other people if you should do it?

it's a word filter. it happens automatically unless you're a cheeky bugger like pedro and mess with the formatting. it's so that search engines don't associate the site with racist/bigoted/homophobic/unsavory terms.mylon wrote:okay, i've always kind of wondered about the censorship on this site. now whats going to happen because you didn't say tnucs? is saying it regularly against the rules? why does everyone say it like that? sorry to be so off-topic.Pedro Sánchez wrote:Facebook confirmed my suspicions about people I suspected being cunts actually being self indulgent cunts.

Re: Deleting Facebook
I deleted mine aswell. However I had to make another one to post things on my music page, so I'm barely going to go on that and just have other producers and djs on it that I may need to contact. I wish I could detach myself from it completely but it's a great promotion tool. It's depressing though how human contact is slowing eroding. You can't read a persons expressions on the Internet I think personally a lot of people and friendships/relationships would be better off without it. Mine just became a place for many insecure people to beg for attention and it really started to bug me.
Re: Deleting Facebook
I can't remember who said it, or what forum it was on, but this quote has always stuck with me:
"The inventors of Facebook and Twitter are quite genius, they tapped into the human emotion of constantly needing to be accepted and heard" or something like that. And in a nutshell, that is what Facebook is.
I have it, and don't mind it. However, I can see its negatives and positives. It's clear who is very egotistical on there, and it's clear who is a bit more down to earth. One thing which I do despise about Facebook is it is essentially a news website, which feeds off each individuals own views...which for the most part are completely bollocks. I guess it has made me more cynical on Facebook, as it has shown me just how dumb and ignorant people are.
I may delete my Facebook one day, and my memories will remain on nights out, old friends. It's not like I need a website to show me and remind me this.
On a plus, Facebook is good for potential business purposes and networking, as well as a few flash games and perving, so not all is lost!

Re: Deleting Facebook
I was a fairly early adopter of social networking sites since 2003 and by the time facebook got big, I was already over it. Never even signed up for Facebook. And it was funny, people would ask me what my facebook is and I would tell them that I don't have one, and they would look at me like I was crazy...
It was all just a big brain drain for me. Who needs 5000 friends (that aren't really your friends)?
My real friends know how and where to reach me.
Some people are straight up addicted to it though.

Re: Deleting Facebook
deleted mine as well, been 3 or 4 months now. funnily enough i decided to do it shortly after i moved to a different country, away from all of my friends and family.... rather than mourning all the "connection" i'd be losing with them, i saw it as an easy way to weed out who actually cared to keep in contact and who just wanted to send a few lines of chat when they were reminded of my existence.
