This will undoubtebly be massive, but I don't really know what to expect of this though. What is Cuban music?

I won't front like i know anything about Cuba's music or culture... but from a background in afro-cuban drumming in latin jazz, i'd have to assume its heavy on the latin rhythms which i can't spell or readily link to audio of... sorry that's really unhelpful lol
but its latin music and its really heavy, lots of percussion, syncopation built around a steady kick drum like a samba or a 4x4, lots of cowbell riddims carrying it, uptempo ..

I cannot wait for this, really really cool news

Shiiieeettt. Add some massive Mala basslines and we've got ourselves an album that we'll still be listening to 10 years from now.

Cuban music has been incredibly influential on American music, esp. back inna day with Jazz and R&B picking up little Cubanisms like Cha Cha and Mambo - every time you hear a 5 count over a 4 time, even arguably the two-step riddim - it's all the result of Cuban musical influence. It's a mix of deep European roots and deep African roots that speaks to just about everyone that hears it. Ironically, it went full circle and now Cuban music influences African and European sounds... its own parents...

As a big fan of Son music particularly, I'd love to see Mala tap into that sound.

There's a tune i've been playing live called "Cuba Electronica" (formerly Brazil Electronica). Work of art. It might be his best tune to date....
Should be on the album.

The excitement is totally justified.

Can't say I'd heard any Cuban music before, but rummaging around in this thread's got me really excited and mega intrigued. The impression I'm getting from these tunes definitely suits what I understand of Mala.

that was madddddd at bassic 8)

i can see how its in this vein from those sample clips
"There is a lot of tension in the music that carries a satisfactory darkness with it, but it's also lazy music. You don't have to dance hard to move with it. It was born with a reefer in it's gob."
