Distance should be the first producer to check out since all his musical influences come from rock/metal .

I honestly though that guys like Skrillex and Bassnectar were dubstep =O Since I pretty much completely hate those I never really bothered to look into their roots, so I apologize for my ignorance. I like that Distance song and I checked out a few songs on that thread I personally like it a WHOLE lot better than Skrillex and Bassnectar. Thank you for shedding some light on the genre I had no idea about any of it honestly.

I think I probably said this but Excision and those other guys seem to be the only ones of that mainstream variety I dig. I've always though Skrillex and Bassnectar, ( I heard a few other guys like them too) and they fucking suck as far as Im concerned

Drone/funeral and dark ambient are genres of metal that really bring that deep dark feeling of dubstep :W:

bear in mind, 'dubstep' is pretty broad - the only real requirements (imo) are emphasis on subbass, those frequencies you feel, not hear.
there's great minimal, stripped down sounds, but there are also quality tearout tunes that kill the dance.

i'm surprised there hasn't been more mention of kromestar.

Sun O))) is probably the best example. If you browse around death metal eps/lps you will see at least one dark ambient track

I was interested to hear those, and although I respect the talent behind it, that shit's just too dark. Like, Shackleton - The Rope Tightens (Badawi Remix) is one of the darkest things I've ever heard, but that second track just went beyond that. Maybe its just cos its 3am and I'm tired as fuck, but still... damn. And the subgenre is 'Depressive/Suicidal Black Metal'. Trying a bit to hard there maybe?

However, one of the gods of true dubstep, called Distance, comes from a metal background, so you may well like it. He says he likes dubstep because it has the dark, almost scary feel of metal.

I love metal but I prefer deep/dark dubstep :) Two completely different sides to my music taste. I don't think there are many people who only listen to either aggressive music or chilled/deep music.
