Hackintosh?

Guess youd have to use it to find out for yourself. For me its its day to day workflow, kills everything ive used in the past. Its mixer is top class too.

in the old hackintosh days, yes because it ran from a modified version of osx.

But not nowadays within the last year, the os is untouched, but extra drivers are written by the community to support the hardware to software bridge instead of hacking the OS

I'm running a i7 hackintosh, it runs just like the MacPro I use at work, only a fuck load faster, I'm running Snow Leopard (Lion doesn't have enough features to warrant the upgrade, so I'm skipping it) and installation is just a boot disc, normal OSX installation then you run a package for added driver support, thats it, all updates from then on are just like any other mac in software terms and OS . I run XP in virtualbox for a few windows based softwares so I don't have to dual boot and it's smooth as.

Timely thread... Have been getting closer and closer to this idea. Thinking about letting ivy come out, and picking up a price dropped sandy on the cheaps.

Logic Pro is only $199 right now. Have heard it mentioned that Apple will give a free upgrade to the next release if you buy within a cutoff, just wondering what that would be.

Also, you don't need a mac os to buy a mac os?

Does apple care about this, are they trying to shut down the hackintoshes? Or do they just let it slide.

Thats just the processor chip.

You gotta think about the motherboard, graphics card everything... People have been writing code for some time now to create drivers for these bits of gear so that the OSX can interface with them.

Interesting, I honestly didn`t know that.
I just figured it was all running on a similar setup.
I`m super happy with my pc performance so I can only imagine a hackintosh would work as well.

I got OSX Snow Leopard Retail installation disc for £20 delivered of ebay it was about £50 in the apple store at the time.

Apple's not arsed unless machines are getting advertised and sold this way, preventing the sales of their Mac hardware.

I had Cubase 4 > 5 full version, flogged it and bought the discounted Logic (adaption was minimal, I'm old skool and run with keyboard shortcuts) for this setup and spec'd up this machine with the leftover change.

I have to wait for a patched kernel after a software update but that's only because my netbook has an atom CPU.

99% a software update is pretty trivial as long as you back up your kexts

That's said, if you want it easy then just get a real mac.

Writing this now from my Hackintosh.

Just transferring files etc..
I was VERY lucky and I picked hardware that needed very little doing to it. It all worked out of the box except form the audio jacks. now i have that working its flying fast.
Geekbench is giving me a score equivalent of an 8core xeon mac pro!
All for £615. i will never go back now.

I may have to return my MacBook Pro to work, and would not have the funds to get a new one immediately. I also have a 3 year old Dell XPS 435. Where would I start with figuring out if I could install OS X on it?
