I really like AlgorVerb... Simplest plug ever but it sounds great.
Also Redline 112db verb is amazing!

So, what exactly is "dungeon bass"? Am i missing something here, or are we just talking about dark drone sounds?

Those dark, growly midrange sounds that you find in a lot of "dungeon" tracks, listen to some Biome or Distance for examples

lol, Biome.

Producer mate of mine found the bass sample Biome used for Propaganda. No FX (other that reverb) were added. And here I was thinking Biome created everything in his tunes...

Don't get me wrong, love Biome's work, but my respect for him as a talented producer went down a little when I heard that.
160 bpm roller - for all the skankas.

why??

Did you like the tune before you knew the sample was not his?
In the end it`s the result that matters.

nooo really? that growl he uses in 'Space' I've heard in a few of his other tunes but I just assumed that was just a sick sound he reused. That shadows track he posted on his SC a few weeks ago is still killer though

For a lot of dungeon sounds, my fx chain might look something like this:

Basic EQing
Logic's platinumverb or goldverb
Overdrive and/or saturation and/or other types of distortion
Bounce out
Lightly compress
Perhaps another instance of EQ, more experimental/creative

EDIT: this is mostly for drums
reverb and then distort? I've always had the idea that this wasn't a good idea, but then again, i've never tried it. about to!

I've created dungeon sounds in Ableton's stock plugins, Massive, on my Virus TI, Sylenth1 (awesome for warm sounds), amongst others. Learn how to create sounds ;)
now THATS an answer; thanks.
Yeah, the very same answer as the first one that was posted in other words.

Seriously, 'dungeon bass' is probably the easier sound to make. Get a reese sample if you have to and just do shit to it.That's like 75% of the work. The other 25% is 'lfo to the cutoff'. Or use a synth instead of a sample. Whuh'evah.

Yeah it works for me! You can definitely get some twisted sounds out of it

I think you might have missed my point :P
nah i got what you said bro , i was stressing the fact that your answer was much more useful to me than " learn synthesis" , i needed a basic idea of what fx/vst's people use so on and so forth.

Perhaps you missed the last line I wrote. Particularly this part "love biome's work".

For me, I thought he synthesized everything, so obviously it was a pretty big let down. Now I don't know how much he actually synthesizes - which is part of what makes dungeon so wicked to listen to. And yes, it does impact how much respect for him as a producer - cos I work my ass off trying to create the best sounds that I can rather than just taking something from a sample pack - anyone can do that.

I could care less if Biome uses the odd bass sample here and there. Hell, he could use all samples and no nothing about synthesis and he would have my respect for days. The guy has the sharpest mixes and nicest vibes around for my money. He's a serious talent. No huge let downs here. I think it was Picasso that said "Good artists copy, Great artists steal". :Q:

Awesome tune btw sub

Distance and Icicle just came out with a new VST

wubTurbo... I'm not kidding, all you need is a mic! MAke your sounds with your mouth and wubTurbo automatically bassifies it, its amazing... Oh wait, whats that, you don't have a mic? No need to worry because with wubTurbo you can just type out your sounds and they will be bassilized into the darkest scariest bass you could ever imagine.. Simply type "wub bzzzuuww WUB WUB" and let the magic begin..

Be on the look out for BroTurbo coming soon

i don't really understand that. Maybe your respect for him as a synthesist or sound designer would fall, but that's a propducer's job -- to put stuff together into a final body of work. Is George Martin less of a producer if he hires a guitarist to play a part, rather than doing it himself? Nah... he decided what part he needed, and found the best person he could get for the task, and nailed down the result. producer.
