Re: NOT Boddika & Joy O - Space
gonna be a bit off-topic since micky posted, but he posted while i was writing this.
1. The Artist: he/she decides which sound to follow (if any)...i don't wanna say names, but while everyone hops on burial fakes, no1 hops on 808/909/w/e users. Big big names started using the same sounds and completely changing the sound that they were known for just to get that hype in. I don't wanna be cruel, but 90% of this "acid" music is pretty simple, not adding anything new...you find the right sample, tweak it -> loop it -> hype it. Remember when everybody was trying to be original? To add something to music? These artists ain't adding shit if they just copy each other.
2. The DJ: he/she basically plays whatever he/she wants, but when instead of playing songs that nobody ever heard, he/she chooses to play "classics"...I respect classics n all, but new classics need to be built too right? How on earth can someone get exposure if the DJ plays 90s-80s only? Yeah it's cool...The DJ just doesn't know how much motivation it means for the artist that his/her tune got played out by the DJ. If the DJ doesn't play "classics", he/she plays tunes that were given to him/her to be played out. Ofc there's gotta be some motivation in the game too, and since the label is willing to promote in any means possible, the DJ might even get paid (or something) to rinse n hype (put in personal tops n shit) something out.
3. The Label: the label's goal is to sell as many copies as possible. There are a lot of promotion tools, and the label is ready to use all of them. In sicko cell's case I can understand that the label pulled every string possible to sell as many copies as possible. It reached its goal, i think, even though i think it was anti-game behavior as many good releases that appeared in that period got pushed in the background. Some labels are at a certain level that they don't release fresh artists (no matter how big the tune is), just because the artist is not known enough aka his/her name doesn't ring any bells = sales will be lower. Some labels promise releases to the artists, so that the artist doesn't sign with someone else, and then drop them because the artist's style is too different from the hype sound. Instead of signing something original, they sign someone who offers the same style as the big names but asks for less money (or no money at all).
Just my 2 cents...it's sad, but true
I just want to say that I've got maximum respect for those who (got fkd over several times by people and) still have the motivation to try and push their own original sound forward.
In my experience there are three parties doing the wrong thing in this game:q-t wrote: Just shows that people generally care more about the name behind the music than it's actual qualities.
I genuinely want to think that this scene goes against this mentality, but seing this and similar cases have kind of made me lose my faith.
This mentality is also the reason to why many people are afraid to play and support new artists and styles, resulting in every new producer sounding the same and playing the same sets.

Re: NOT Boddika & Joy O - Space
I've got records like this from the 90s man. I dunno if the producer was trying to copy someone current, but this style has been around for a very long time.kuklee wrote:this just proves that 90% of the new producers or w/e don't even sit down n try to come up with new sounds...they'd just copy what's already out there.
Result: ppl end up think that ur tune was made by boddika lol. Nice publicity, but i'd be ashamed.![]()
Anyway, I think it's a nice tune.

Haven't listened to the tune yet, but I won't anyway because it's not by Joy O.

I wouldn't buy it either, although I do have Sunkblablabla 1
Re: NOT Boddika & Joy O - Space
you got that right, now I dont know whether it is cos I know its not joy o and bods, and I know people can be fickle and if it was them from the off peopel would like it if it was them, even if it was shit. but I think that track is boring as hell and the chord sound is not pleasing to my ears, and the track is basically just that sound, almost dry of effects too. So if it was the guys, I would still not buy it.q-t wrote:Maybe because he don't like it?untightled wrote:why?skimpi wrote:If this was sunklofree i would not buy it hahaMuncey wrote:I hope they come out and say LOL JOKE it is us really. Re: NOT Boddika & Joy O - Space
I probably would if the flip was good enough lol. Its a good tune but yeah, its not to Bod and Joy Os standard. Fact is it would still sell out within a day and be on discogs for £40+ within a week.skimpi wrote:If this was sunklofree i would not buy it hahaMuncey wrote:I hope they come out and say LOL JOKE it is us really. I seriously would like to understand these discogs assholes. Stop buying music you don't even enjoy enough to keep and save it for the people who actually want it!
Re: NOT Boddika & Joy O - Space
