I like how a websites graphical waveform display on a shitty low quality MP3 flash player is being used to determine the quality of the sound engineers\mastering houses work.
OP was right, i did get a laugh out of this.

this loudness limiter on the classic tune in the video made me

I'm not accusing you of making the thread. I'm accusing you of agreeing with the OP.Basic A wrote:You act like I made the thread, Im not remotely jealous, if I saw a tune on here that was brickwalled, Id laugh just the same.
Tune literally sounds like exactly what people want, is loud as fuck, and is #1 on beatport, so I think he made the right decision. I'm not saying you're jealous that you wish you could be #1 dubstep on beatport, but that you're jealous of his success. You wish you could have that success with your loudness-war-holier-than-thou mindset.I cant well be jealous of a dubstep #1 on beatport, Im not a dubstep DJ or producer, its not my genre, its not my taste, I play and produce mostly techno/electro/house, Im here because there are alot of good people on here. Why does taste always equal jealousy with you people? Cant you understand some of us arent in this to compete with anyone? That some of us just like artistic expression through sound? Jeez... And also, this isnt a question of Excisions production you fuckin dumbass, we're explaining how a poor ME can complete ruin a tune by someone as talented as Excision. Not saying excisions tune was bad. Or that we are jealous. Just that dude should re-evaluate who he hires.
I never said it's about Excision, I know that you are talking about his ME, and it's you're not your. Don't even pretend like you're above me. And I'm not mad, nor am I showing signs of anger. I'm not dishing out insults; you are. Finally, as someone whos had my own mastering treatments pressed to wax, dont talk shit on my knowledge, I can definately find a few times Ive helped you personally on here if I did some searching, and Ive been producing EDM for 8 years, dont suppose I might have heard brickwalled audio before? And after searching your posts, you just generally seem mad today, so Ill forgive you for not bothering to read anytihng I said, and completely missing the point of Deadlies post.
But one more time - your a dumbass. This isnt about Excision, so its not jealousy of him. Its about his mastering engineers.

the "Loudness" of a digital waveform means nothing. If the track is pushed to the limit like that, it only means distortion or loss of transients/dynamics. The listener can easily turn up their amp if they want it loud.
But I also agree with 'Almighty Alias'. Sites like Beatport and soundCloud mess with the track waveforms so much its ridiculous...I wouldn't dare judge a track based off such a thing.

You're absolutely right, people can easily turn up the volume themselves. But it's like with web design, people don't like to scroll, even though it's fuckin easy. As a culture we're just getting lazier. So everyone wants louder tracks.Sintax makes bass wrote:joshisrad wrote:Tune literally sounds like exactly what people want, is loud as fuck, and is #1 on beatport, so I think he made the right decision. you people do understand that processing can't be reversed right so if it's evident EVEN in it's low quality form
also this has nothing to do with the content of the tune or it's producer, but rather how the loudness wars and brickwall limiting on any tune can ruin it

the song is squashed to hell and the listener suffers due to it
Re: this should get some laughs
Tell that to the tens of thousands of people who love the shit out of the song and have helped it reach #1 on beatport. Those poor listeners.. suffering and they don't even know it!

and more people bought death magnetic by metallica and that was atrociously mastered as welljoshisrad wrote:Tell that to the tens of thousands of people who love the shit out of the song and have helped it reach #1 on beatport. Those poor listeners.. suffering and they don't even know it!
sales doesn't automatically excuse a shitty mastering job, that and your common listener is playing their music on ipod headphones which we all know are the greatest for picking up on the nuances of a track

You clearly haven't heard of Teknicyde have you...joshisrad wrote:
The sub sounds fine to me. No reason to reduce the limiting. I think you're just mad because the track sounds huge and everyone loves it, and you can't do it like that.
Re: this should get some laughs
So what? A huge amount of people like it, and not one of them walks away from their listening experience thinking "man this would be a lot better if that jerk hadn't pushed the limiter so hard." Nobody is suffering. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad mastering.deadly habit wrote:and more people bought death magnetic by metallica and that was atrociously mastered as welljoshisrad wrote:Tell that to the tens of thousands of people who love the shit out of the song and have helped it reach #1 on beatport. Common listener of this kind of music is listening on Beats, I'll bet. They just like their shit loud and bassy dude, and that's exactly what this is. There is nothing wrong with that. The "loudness war is bad" shit is totally bogus. Loudness sells.
Re: this should get some laughs
LAWL. it sounds fine. but clearly 'loudness sells' is stupid because plenty of music is not brick wall'd. if you take a look over to the MAIN PAGE on the beatport charts, you will see that none of the tracks suffer from the same problem.joshisrad wrote: Loudness sells.
Re: this should get some laughs
Alot of Excision's stuff is smashed to hell.
It still sounds good to me. Would it sound better a bit eased back?
Probably... so.
But I don't mind.
I do miss the Swagga back and subsonic type tracks though.
