fuck the investment potential of vinyl it's not about money...
...and fuck vinyl do you think it's fair to only produce stuff that can get played out on an expensive piece of musical equipment of which hardly anyone has anymore
it's about reaching the widest possible audience with your art and affecting them with it...
what's the point in spending millions on a picasso if you're only gonna lock it in a vault ???
may as well make a few posters of it so the masses can at least appreciate the work and you get some dosh as well
IMHO
auralassassin when your vinyl investment matures in 15 years are you gonna give a percentage back to the artist ???...yeah right

The vinyl is mine to do with as I please... I'm not going to argue with you... mp3 BY DESIGN is lower quality than wav files or vinyl...
do whatever you want, and I'll do what I want.
personally, I don't care what you think--if you are putting out dope beats, or playing dope beats... I care about that... I'm not on this website to hear your opinions about vinyl/mp3/cd... whatever you use to get to your ends is fine... what is the end product--thats all I care about.

No, not pirate it... don't be a smartass, you know damn well what it licenses you to do.Dept of Hell Science wrote:...including pirating it ???auralassassin wrote:The vinyl is mine to do with as I please...
the hunk of blackwax is yours but that's not it's value is it... ???
And it has value beyond playability... we're talking collecting something. It's a colletion, with value--sentimental and otherwise.
AMEN!!Dept of Hell Science wrote:fuck the investment potential of vinyl it's not about money...

i just had to quote that again!!
if i want to buy vinyl i will, i have done it in the past. like all 853 cataloged drum and bass, hip hop, house, and broken beat records in my collection.
you know what??
vinyl looks good stacked up against the wall, but i want more space in my house.
so why in the hell are you tryin to tell me why mp3 suck, cant touch blah blah...?!?!?!auralassassin wrote:personally, I don't care what you think--if you are putting out dope beats, or playing dope beats... the end product is of less quality with an MP3... thats the point... because it is of lesser quality than a PHYSICAL PRODUCT, most labels are still behind on it.
nothing past that...
it's worth less, and in 10 years, the vinyl will still be worth something... THAT BEING FUCKING SAID, YOU STUPID FUCK(LISTEN GOOD PLEASE)
I still purchase some mp3's, and I still rip my vinyl to mp3's to play with ableton and serato. because I like to not devalue my older/classic tracks more than I have to.
Whats hard to grasp about that...
ATTN LABELS:
BOW TO MY WHIM... THANKS!

so does it license you to keep it and sell it for more than it's value without a precentage going back to the artist ???
I think as time goes by your vinyl collection won't be worth shit like a lot of crap albums from the 70's 80's etc...
...let's not get too carried away with what we do
...we're making perfectly disposable pop music for the here and now it's not meant to last. It's shelf life is all of maybe 6 weeks on vinyl. I mean come on how many tunes out there in the last 5 years do you think have the legs to go the distance ???...sweet FA
...the end product is not hoarding vinyl as an investment and pissing on lo bit mp3's

the end product is phat beats for the masses, not just the ones who can afford it either and money to the artists for a job well done...auralassassin wrote:what is the end product--thats all I care about.

I collect baseball cards that have value... just because something is valuble doesn't mean you sell it... it's a collection--I collect it, and the gained value is just something to attach personal meaning to that collection, nothing more.Dept of Hell Science wrote:so does it license you to keep it and sell it for more than it's value without a precentage going back to the artist ???
Quit trying to fucking parse words and flip thing around on me to start a fucking argument... there is no argument needed.
MP3 is technically inferior to Vinyl.
Discerning buyers prefer to have a physical product with artwork, etc... so they can touch what they spent money on... I collect because there is the artwork... I like to be able to touch, taste, see... in addition to HEAR...
I rip it to preserve that, in the end.... the value goes up. thats like poor handling of your vinyl, because it's over 6 weeks old.
I don't just buy every track that comes out, I buy stuff that i will still want to hear in 10-15 years. fucks sake... I'm not into "fads"
sorry if you are, I don't feel the need to apologize for buying good music. which, by the way, will still be good in 10 years--or it wasn't good to begin with.

how's about answering the question then ??? Y/N
so let me get this straight you're buying stuff that someone will pay big bucks for while still knowing what your particular taste in music will be in 15 years time...
...man i cringe when i hear some of the shit I used to think was damn hot back in the day
discerning buyers would rather have a ferrari but they're not going to use public transport for 15 years just so they can save up for one...
...I'm not starting an argument merely pointing out the obvious flaws in yours and expressing my opinion, same as you, take it or leave it
I never said mp3's were superior to vinyl in quality but in terms of a format that suits the needs of the market it is superior...
...surely with all your investment speak and enlightened judgment you would know this
I know in the not too distant fututre we will look back at our earliest efforts and cringe too at how good we thought we were when in reality we were just indicative of the times and no better or worse than anybody else...
...it's just the big wheel turning, aint no big thing and nothing to blow a valve over

My taste in music is expanding, not getting slimmer...
music that is good is good, regardless... I buy tracks that I think are timeless. If I buy them, it will be a place in time that I can think back to in 10-15 years when playing that vinyl... I can remember who I was now and what I was like...
I don't expect anyone to understand... I like having things of value, both sentimental and monetary.
And as a medium, it beats mp3 as far as quality...
as I've said, if you want mp3's great... I'm telling you why it's harder to find tracks on mp3. Labels are coming around, but it's going to be slow--because discerning buyers will still be buying the physical product if they can get their hands on it.
net releases are a good thing as well.. I've had some tunes signed to net only labels that got me meager exposure... and cost me nothing more than my time and the cost of my gear...
when it comes down to it though, I'm still at about a 1000:1 ratio as far as expense:reward

I do understand man...
...and while I'm physically the same person I was 15 years ago I am not mentally the same nor in as good physical shape just like some of my old vinyl
my point is the digital distribution of musical artists work will in the future not be handled by labels in the traditional sense but artists themsleves and it is possible for artist to do that now
another thing is I don't see why a tune should generate a copyright fee everytime it is broadcast or why agencies have any rights to artists music and can charge for it
that shit is so 1950s institutionalised ripoff bullshit and the whole labelling of piracy angle by the powers that be is more about protecting their sweet gig while ensuring jobs foir the boys still exist
I was so close to suing our copyright agency APRA for doing that and in much the same way, you may own the record but you don't own the tune and I'm pretty sure their is a resale clause prohibiting further distribution of it by sale or otherwise

I don't pay a fee to play it, thats where I draw the line... I feel as though I already paid the fee when I purchased the tune. I wouldn't purchase a song I can't play--which is why I won't buy Soul:R records, after Marcus Intalex had a guys mixes taken off of DOA...
If I am selling the mix, thats a different story...
And I rip my older vinyl so that it can be preserved, so i can listen or play it out without wearing it out. Some of my stuff would be unplayable without that... I'm not as unwavering on this aspect of mp3's and I am of piracy... this one I can see NUMEROUS grey areas

i have never seen a lable boss/artist say -
we dont release mp3 because of quality.
if anything, releasing an mp3 is SOOOO much easier than a vinyl release.
i dont even know why im arguing with you.
until a label boss/artist says the above - stfu.

No, actually... 170 is the only person ignored. anyone who purposely starts shit, or persists in trying to bait me into arguments will just be ignored. I'm easily pulled into arguments, and rather than deal with the bullshit, it'll be easier to ignore them... this way, I'll only hear from people who are willing to be somewhat civil... I'm admitting a character flaw of my own by doing this, I know--but hey... this will solve a lot of problems.UFO over easy wrote:170 - don't worry... you're not the only person Auralassassin has ignored.
there is no point in arguing, I'm wasting my time with it and pissing myself and others off--best this way, really.
