Re: Microkorg v.s Micron (or other synths)
I have a Rolaond Gaia and I would trade it so fast for an ultra nova, I never use it.
You cant really make any dubstep sounds on a gaia. The nova has has 2 filter with about 5 different types of filler distortion. The filter distortion is before the filter aswell so that makes it perfect for crazy dubstep basses. It has some very nice original wave forms, osc sync and some cool touch controls. I cant remember if it has FM (I think It dosnt). It also has a set of FX's at the end of the signal path including more distortion.
Ultra nova takes a big crap on the gaia.
The only thing the gaia dose better than the nova is it had all the controls right in front of you, theres no going through menus.
Dont get the minibrute, just because it Angolan dosnt mean its good. In fact I would say its a bit boring.
IMO the ultra nova is the best synth on the market at the moment.

I had the same experience trying out the Gaia. Some people I know swear by it, but, it is not subtle, the badness. Sometimes people split hairs, like this device is 0.5% better... whatever, close enough, but the gaia just sounded out and out bad to me, at the most basic level.paosciante wrote:the sound is really really bad imo.
RE the minibrute being borning... I think the minitaur is boring. Like no doubt it sounds great for what it does, but it is a bit limited. The minibrute, on the other hand, with just one osc, seems like it has an assortment of tricks up its sleeve, not found on anything else. We'll find out in about a week! Can't wait.

so sample the individual notes and build up your chords from there?samurai wrote:I really love almost everything about the minibrute. except chords. I need chords.

My plan... Imagining crazy warbling wonky chords.

20 hours until it is shipped to me
hopefully.

no I need to be able to play chords for when I'm designing the sound. it's just for how I operate. I don't know music theory, or play keyboards or shit. it's just that like 90% of the sounds I design are based around chords. ever since I start messing around creating dub tech stabs I've just worked this way.Shum wrote:so sample the individual notes and build up your chords from there?samurai wrote:I really love almost everything about the minibrute. except chords. Re: Microkorg v.s Micron (or other synths)
your loss i guess. i would suggest that you arpeggiate along your chord, eventually you may get a knack for building up chords in your head from the single sounds. helps you learn your chords as well.
Re: Microkorg v.s Micron (or other synths)
yeah it's a pity. I've been looking at some of the smaller hardware synths for a while (blofeld and tetra mainly, now waiting on the pulse 2 before I make my decision, it's monophonic but some people on gearslutz are saying it can play chords using this "paraphonic" mode whatever that's supposed to be...). but obviously the minibrute sparked my interest as well. the hands on control factor is obviously a huge draw, but because it's mono I fear I would end up partially frustrated with it if I purchased.
I'm going to try to arpeggiating through the chord method you suggested tho.
