I only have the 'dub' because there is already at Distinct on Soundcloud, somebody that has 0 tracks and 0 followers xD. When I actually upload tracks it is just: "Distinct - Track Name"

concentrate on your tunes and not this bullshit.
also don't be a try hard - people won't give a shit if you spam them. let the attention come to you.

Re: Advice on getting signed.
I don't spam people's tracks with pointless messages saying "check out my track" and I don't do "Follow4Follow" or anything like that. I gained followers by people liking my tracks etc

Very true.tacospheros wrote:drop the DUB from your name, first of all. why pigeonhole yourself?
It's why I now produce under a different name.

Re: Advice on getting signed.
As I said, I only call myself 'DistinctDub' just incase the name is taken; I've now changed my Soundcloud name purely to 'Distinct'

Re: Advice on getting signed.
I'm not a producer but my advice (for what it's worth) is don't try and focus on getting signed. Just make tunes, if they are good...someone will notice. Also...network, go to nights and speak with people. Even getting involved with other people here on DSF is good, I've made a lot of friends just from this forum alone.

Re: Advice on getting signed.
what i mean is don't put shit like ******** please favourite************ in your track titles. obviously you can do what you want but to me at least it looks stupid, glory hunting and try hard. like, people will favourite your track or whatever if its dank, not because you asked. this is by no means a personal thing, i'm just giving you advice and i think a label would tell you the same.DistinctDub wrote:I don't spam people's tracks with pointless messages saying "check out my track" and I don't do "Follow4Follow" or anything like that. I put please favourite because the way to win that particular competition is to get the most favourites, my followers will normally comment but not favourite; I needed to let them know how to vote!

getting signed in this day and age is easy
getting the labels to actually pay you what you're owed is the hard part

Yeah I've heard of a few disagreements and the label Houze Records doesn't seem to be getting good reviews.deadly habit wrote:getting signed in this day and age is easy

7 year old BROstep/Trapstep/Chillstep producer from India. Young. Talented. 7 Years Old. Super skilled for age. Signed to NOW22. Biography written in 3rd person on soundcloud OBVI. The next Skrillex. Wait I don't even like him anymore LOL. Super talented. Only 6 years old.

This thread MUST have been moved because there were serious heads posting.
Re: Advice on getting signed.
A big part of it is networking on your own. Ask other producers to remix your music so they can post it. Spread your links all over. Get on Dub channels on YouTube. Get some decent equipment and play some local shows. Focus more about getting it out to people than labels. People first, label later. Don't be affraid to repsond to people when they ask questions, even if it gets to the point of having one-hundred questions a day. Just keep at it as much as you can. Every day if possible, work on something to promote yourself and affiliate yourself with other producers. Eventually, word will spread and a label will come your way... If you're music is good enough.

Completely disagree with a lot of what you said. Especially:Zealux wrote:A big part of it is networking on your own. Ask other producers to remix your music so they can post it. People hate this, and I don't know of one person that actually achieved anything with it. This is just my opinion, but I think it's much better to get it out to a few more important, relevant people. If one respected DJ, website, radio show host, etc. gets your stuff out, then that'd be a hell of a lot more effective than sending it to 1,000 people who don't know who you are, don't care, and are so used to spam that they'll skip over it straight away. Maybe it's not fair, but that's the way it is. That is, after all, one of the ideas behind labels, to be another layer of quality control for the tunes that reach your ears.Zealux wrote:Spread your links all over
My advice on getting signed. Don't try. Just get your music to the right people first.

Re: Advice on getting signed.
Thanks for all the advice guys, so basically I should let labels approach me rather than the other way around? I have quite a decent amount of followers on Soundcloud who like my music, so I'm just going to carry on providing music for them.
