haven't found the need for comp accoustic treatment, but i will say my omni mics pick up even the low noise from my fans due to rack being in proximity
how do they stack up noise wise vs heat?
well like i said i chose to put 3 exhaust fans which are located on the top and back. but the top ones are 140mm so they're a little bit quieter and also underneath my desktop. the front fans are behind the sound dampened door and theres one intaking from the bottom of the case which will also be sound dampened. i imagine this will be a nice balance between quiet and cool. not to mention all 6 fans will be fully controllable by me since 3 of them are hand controlled by pci slot knobs and the 3 others will be controlled from within the computer by the motherboard. so no fans will be running full blast unless they need to be.

yeah i went with the arctic cooling 13 92mm cpu cooler. its pretty decent and pretty cheap. looks nice matching my white accents too.

eventually i will get a noctua cooler when i overclock.

btw how does the cable management look in my case? it was a bit of a bitch but im pretty happy with it overall.

looks pretty good, i went the same route, but with zip ties and velcro ties
sloppy cable management can cause you to lose a few degrees cooling heh

yeah no doubt. i used zip ties and twist ties on mine and tried to do the best job tucking and hiding things away. some cables wee a bit tricky but i think it came out good. now i just have to play the waiting game till my cpu comes in. i probably should have waited putting everything together but i was sick of all these parts laying around my room.

and theres a couple of wires behind the hard drive bays that had to cross there because they were too short. but im going to tie most of them up the best i can. i just left them for now because i still have a couple things going in like an ssd etc..

yea the key places you need to worry about is your heatsink, psu exhaust and case general exhaust to keep open as much as possible
hard drives run low heat anyways

Have an Antec quiet case, similar to this:

Image

Yes it looks like a fridge, but I never see it because it is buried under my desk.

I spent moneys on a quiet pc. It was quiet for a year, then the fans started getting noisy. It is a drag. The worst noise offender is the gpu fan, initially had a passive gpu but it was too wimpy. I can't find a decent gpu that is fanless or even quiet. Honestly can't stand pc hum. It is one of those things that just makes you edgy, even if you are not aware of it. Imo, at least.

yeah thats where the dampening will come into play a bit.

and hey that case isn't bad. im sure it works great. looks pretty rugged too. i just got my case because i thought it looked like a hackintosh should. its sort of sleek and has the metal like a mac. what are you running for your setup? mainly cpu and gpu im wondering about...and you said you run osx on it too?

ill be runing osx and windows for some gaming. sucks i wasted 100 bucks on windows 7 too because i got home and opened it for some reason, then 1 day later my friend goes oh heres a burned copy of windows 7 ultimate. i was like fack meeee! but whatever...

edit: nowaysj is that the p182? i've heard good things about that case. i still like the look of mine a tad more but you really cant go wrong with either. and yeah i know what you mean about the pc hum. i guess you could just get new fans :| i mean at around 5-10 bucks a pop its not too too bad if you had to replace them every 3 years or so.

btw what gpu you running? i went with the superclocked evga gtx 560

I'm using an aerocool case.
I'm very happy with it.
I have a big clear panel on the side of the box and the entire box is very nicely vented.
Plus it came with a built in gaming power supply with extra cooling.
I like it as each bay has space for an individual fan.
