The amount of paedophilic charges on that list are quite worrying

beginning to think secret paedophilia is common in our society, if that's just one group of closely monitored individuals, and still only the ones who were actually found out...

i am not really concerned with the immorality of certain police officers in particular situations but rather their systemic role. i'm sure there are some police officers who always obey the law but the law itself upholds an unjust system.

however it does give the lie to the convention that police officers are any different from the general populace. they are "supposed" to be but that myth really only serves the elite. people presume an honesty and goodness on the part of police officers that they simply don't necessarily have, and that legitimises them when they, say, beat up protestors, lie in court or protect their fellow racists in the force.

i have no doubt there are some well intentioned officers but they are probably a minority, and even the well-intentioned ones are at least *quite* conservative

Impossible to really gauge how many peaedophiles there are , you would assume the majority of them never really act on their impulses

not sure whether "paedophile" is an umbrella term grouping people with quite different motivations. e.g. some "paedophiles" might actually have sexual impulses towards children whereas others just like targeting/intimidating the weak or vulnerable, and so abuse any asymmetric power situation

That's what i meant, that more people might be sexually attracted to children then we may think.

Until they invent machines that can see inside people's thoughts, we'll never know, It's not exactly something you can just go out and survey people about.

This. Rape is often about the powerplay rather than any kind of real sexual attraction - the pathetic man who can't impose his will on the world around him imposing it on a weaker creature. It's more often about self esteem than it is "Phhhwwooarr, I can't resist!", but it's such a complex crime that it's pretty difficult to generalise... and it's worth keeping in mind that abusers have very often been through abuse themselves.

There's at least a shadow of a link between the desires to reach a position of power over the general public and those to take advantage of the less powerful - but that's more than enough armchair psychology from me.

Not suprising. My brothers godfather had a prosperous 30 year career selling seized goods and providing insider information to organised crime. He reached the top of his profession and when found guilty was asked to leave on full pay (till retirement) The theory was that he knew so much about police corruption that they let him go before he grassed up his whole division. Crime sometimes pays off nicely.
I just wonder how many similar cases there are. This list is only a small percentage of what really goes on.

The only similar one for UK I knew of is the system from a few years back where the police in London encouraged people to report how their interaction went via SMS. Dunno what ever happened to that though.

Surprised no one has brought up how most policemen are also members of various Masonic lodges.
Surely they look out for one another. Only suspended for child porn? Was it paid suspension too...
sorry, but there was a request for more conspiracy threads last week.

Is that actually true though? I know 2 people from my school that are now policeman, and I doubt they could even spell Masonic let alone join them.

Very large amounts of them are. But certainly not all by any means. Thing about Freemasonry though is typically they aren't allowed to recruit, you have to ask to join a lodge. I think it's a brotherly type thing, since these guys often serve with each other for decades. I'd assume membership numbers grow within police rank too. The so called secret societies will help out other members, that's why there's so many members in powerful positions.
Here's a huge thread on a police forum with officers from all over the world. I've read through it before, it's interesting (link disabled, copy/paste it):

It kindda annoys me how the only guy that sounds like he's foreign on there "Sultan Alam" and he was found innocent and was 'framed'. Not being racist but think it might be an example of, let's be really nice too everyone except our own people.
