went to leeds international beer fest on saturday.
was fucking wicked and the layout was set like the globe (usa on the left, europe on the right).
had all my favourite breweries there at really cheap prices.
already had most of the beers before but special mentions go to:
victory hop devil (my fave of the night)
stones ruination
kernel galaxy hbc
magic rock magic 8 ball (best black ipa ive had since scanner darkly)
sierra nevada 'ultra rare' cask (didn't catch the name of it sadly)
and i rounded the night off with a few of my favourite beer this year.. sierra nevada hoptimum.
seriously never had an above 10% beer that was so good on the palette.
i had a few sierra nevada torpedoes before i got there which by the end of it i was an absolute state.

That Hoptimum is pretty good. I have to be in the right mood for IPA's but that one was really smooth, even with the high ABV%.
You should try their Bigfoot Barleywine Ale sometime if you get a chance.

nice!
i'm after a pliny the elder too, would that be possibly?
partizan, magic rock, kernel are 3 very popular UK breweries. i'd suggest checking some out on rate beer if you can look past some of the stupid reviews

havent had any of those, but im always interested in new things. pliny is a pain in the ass to get, i nor any of my friends have it. we were just in san diego recently and it was not to be found bottled anywhere, yet it was found on tap in most craft beer bars. we dont have distribution for russian river here in arizona either. i will tell you whats the real stuff however gwa. the ipas that come out of a small brewery in a city called alpine in california, called alpine brewery makes the best ipas in the usa period. i dont care how fresh the heady topper or pliny is. if alpine'd duet, nelson, or pure hoppiness is fresh, it will fucking put you in a hop trance of ecstasy. its clarity, crisp mouthfeel and amazing juicy citrusy hop flavor crushes pliny or heady.
on the left are alpine's duet and nelson, but on the right is the duck duck gooze from lost abbey. i just picked one of those guys up last weekend, one of the most highly sought after beers in america, its a gueuze lambic.

there is a cantillon wholesaler on a road i walk down every day. maybe if i email them they might let me do a small order and collect them.
appreciate the recommendation! i'll speak to my mate and see what he fancies.
i know knell posted a picture of a pliny on instagram the other week.
what type of hops do you like?

specific hops? well, i must say american hops do trounce english and german hops for me, however i still love the way a good bohemian pilsner with saaz hops or a good english ipa with either goldings or some fuggles tastes. as far as american hops go, i love citra, simcoe, amarillo, mosaic, chinook, and centennial. theres tons more but those usually are my favorites. the southern hemisphere hops from new zealand such as nelson sauvin, motueka, and galaxy also are some top favorites of mine, especially when mixed with american hops.
ask about the cantillon stuff and get back to me, im being serious for a trade, i will throw a couple more beers in for free just because. cantillon is a royal pain in the ass to get here. if you cant get it, i would still be up for trying some other new stuff out based on your recommendation.

You guys probably have a large beer collection. I tried to collect some beers but I always just end up drinking them. I think I saved some for a few months before until the next holiday or special occasion came along.

i got some goodies. they have their own refrigerator. one reason i have been after cantillon so much is to build my cellar collection from them.. they make my favorite beer in the world. its so old, theres so much history behind it, and the flavors are so complex.. blows my mind every bottle i drink. me and my lady are trying to plan on going to belgium next year for their zwanze day, which is insane. this is this year's:
