I don't get this, most bad advice gets stomped out by anyone of the more knowledgeable members within a couple posts usually.
In fact, twice in the past month has an actual well known artist being discussed popped into a forum to correct someone making outlandish stupid claims about them.
Anywho, doesn't the fact lurkers can't vote kinda make this poll like halfway useless. I mean I get its aimed at both lurkers and people who also sign in but don't really do much but still.

I think this place could benefit from my creative style discussions looking at the facts and ideology behind certain approaches to production...sound design questions and mixdown questions and headphone/monitor recommendations will always be present, but honestly I really hunger for a good multipage discussion on theory based stuff...or even a good long heated argument about frequency range specifications and the such.

The issues we have are that by and large the 'regulars' on here are a very small (20~) core...the satellite users usually flit in and out with the aforementioned queries which are all well and good and are the lifeblood that keeps things moving but the lack of 'larger picture' discussions is something of a bugbear...paradoxically of course, if there were such large discussions would the satellite heads get involved or would it be the regulars chewing the fat?

I know I'm not a regular, but I'd love to see more discussions like that. Point me in the direction of some and I'll throw in whatever $.02 I can.

Although i havnt been around for too long, i lurked for a good while before i joined because there was good information to take for myself but it is quite an intimidating place for begginers.
I started lurking about two years ago or whenever it was when skrillex started making it big (coincidentally) and i remember every other thread being flamed with insults about him or asking for tuts on how to make his stuff...this was before the brostep thread got created obviously...
I think its pretty unavoidable though tbh, if people are arguing its because they think they know the correct answer...most of the time...you need to just wade through the arguing if you want to get the valuable info and obiovusly we have the production bible which is enough for alot of people to lurk for a good while without having to signup to get the answers to their questions. I used to just come on now and again to read up on EQing or compression and then go away for a weeks or months just creating new tunes and trying to use the information id learned which stopped me asking some terrible terrible questions.

You can still tell that this place is worth joining when lurking because tbh we really arent that bad...in every other production forum i've seen (bar Glitchhopforum) there has been alot of people just outright insulting each other with far less moderation and very offensive content aswell and that seems to be the going thing. The production forum is alot more chilled out then SNH..which is nice..

I would love to see more theory based questions and more alternative techniques like the stuff you post in the thinking out loud thread and hopefully that thread might spur more people towards the truely creative part of producing, thinking outside the box.

It's funny how the third option is being chosen as a joke, yet it holds a lot of truth, as far as i'm concerned. There's a lot of talent and knowledge on this forum, so i keep looking around from time to time, but people are so elitist, unfriendly and narrow minded here. Well, most of em.

it would be nice if you could have discussions without being told you're mindlessly buying into hype or trends

Par for the course, sadly. In the same way that if you put enough monkeys in a room with typewriters you'll get Shakespeare, you put enough music geeks on a forum and eventually being 'cool' will be pushed whilst being a 'sheep' will be derided.

i click "keep me signed in" every time at home and my machine/browser/internet always boots me

often times i've taken the time to write quite a bit, only to push submit and be told "you need to sign in to visit this forum" and my text is gone even when i click back on the browser

i've taken to copying all my post before submitting
it drives me fucing nuts

but anyway maybe people lurk just cuz they don't want to post
have nothing to say
if the reason were legitimately that we're all repellant, repugnant assholes, well then they wouldn't even be lurking

i post because i'm a wound up, bored egomaniac who talks too much but has no friends IRL, so if you're the opposite of that it's probably a good thing
