what???
didn't you know, 128 BPM is the IDEAL DANCING TEMPO, if you make your track 129bpm djs won't play it and it will be too fast for people to dance to

I'm currently making a half-time 128bpm track. Is it dubstep? No probably not. Do I care if it's danceable? Nope. Do I like it and does it sound good to me? Yep, and that's all I think about when making stuff, seriously if you're trying to coordinate your tempo to someones heart beat you have your priorites completely fucking screwed.
Like an electro house track that slows down to half-time 128? definitely sounds awesome and is totally danceable.

You could do a 133bpm dubstep track. Just have to realize if it gets played out, it's probably just going to get moved up to 140 with the rest of the dubstep, and simply complicate things. Some might say it makes it unique, but having to pitch bend your track or key lock it to make it fit in with other tunes in the mix will make you tune sound real shit and not how you want it to. But that's from a dance/dj perspective.

This is the most bollocks question and answers ever, just make a track how ever fucking fast you want to make it, but if its like dnb tempo dont expect it to be dropped in a house set.

132.4 is a good tempo tho m8 try that one

130-135 leaves a lot more room for swing/shuffle than 140, that's for sure. not saying 140 can't swing too, it's just better felt if slowed a few bpms. i think el-b may have said that in an interview somewhere, but i can't remember where

I'll try ~127.5 as well.

Electro house is a little different from what I was describing. That's more like house with wobbles as far as I can tell.

Slightly upsetting how emotional some people on the internet get about tempo. :|

Tempo is important but its only a guideline.
Made this at 127.5 - http://soundcloud.com/skerrick/psy-in-my-eye (Minimal Tech)
Made this at 110 - http://soundcloud.com/skerrick/raw-fourfour (4-4/Dubstep)
Made this at 130 - http://soundcloud.com/skerrick/explore (4-4/Dubstep)
Made this at 90 - http://soundcloud.com/skerrick/subconscious32bit (Dubstep)

just had this kid before telling me he wouldnt mix a 140bpm and 130bpm track because
"i would rather not mix a track that is 130bpm with a track that is 140bpm, as bpm is what defines the genre of a song. A track that is 130 bpm can't be Dubstep, it is just Electronic or Experimental, however alot of Dubstep has been influenced by Experimental and Electronica for sure."
*FACEPALM*
MATE a track at 70bpm or 90bpm or 1000 bpm could be dubstep its spacing and timing that makes it dub, you just gotte be able to work the timing appropriately into the bpm.

Exactly! although I'd definitely suggest a 4 to the floor section to maybe give it more life. Definitely different, liking it.

go to www.soundcloud.com/skerrick and listen to anythign with "dubstep" in the description, theres your answer. and before you get all "rooots of dubstep" on me - it was an abbreviation of the name of the genre, not a miscontrusion.

lol man ambient/atmospheric music is not beatless, it CAN be. dont know where you heard that its beatless though... ambience is quiet, calm, relaxed.. im sure i dont need to tell you this. either way, even if there were no percussion instruments in an ambient track, its still measured in BPM as its a time signature. it identifies the speed that the track can be worked at. :)
