Yeah, i dont really take part in remembrance day as it is basically propaganda, but to do that infront of the families for whom it means an awful lot is not a good look.

Sorry but you're talking shit
i understand your point vulva - but Remembrance Day is not national propaganda, its remembering the folks who died protecting us, this country and its future, in more often than not, horrific and terrifying ways.
Yeah but you're just buying into the propaganda. Firstly the people who signed up for war knew what could happen and should take full responsibility for that. And the government and 'special interests' don't give a fuck. It's a 'show' to make people feel proud of something they didn't have jack to do with. Vulva is still an idiot, cuz to a lot of people it's more than just a 'show' and they use it to remember their loved ones. But to the government, it's a pep rally. Exploting the death of people to train their obedient populace.

A better day would be a commemoration for people who were conscripted into war. People who were made slaves by a government to die for their special interests. It's the worst thing a government can do.

If I were apart of a 'government', then I'd totally vote for a holiday like that.

Doesn't matter if it's propaganda or not, it raises a lot of money for injured soldiers in current wars

which it absolutely shouldn't have to.

The protestor is a prick apart from anything else anything he actually has to say gets lost in the absurdity of the protest, makes it less about any protest and more about him.

If you wanna protest against or about war then do it, but to say that 'it's necessary' to sabotage this sort of event is fucking stupid and childish.. Unless your aim is to offend families that lost relatives. Either way, still a tnuc

Yep which is all well and good but tbh noone should need to raise money for injured soldiers- if theyre injured doing their job their employer should make sure they are looked after as long as necessary. Nor should there be any injured soldiers at all really.

Remembrance day is another way the government legitimises war which benefits the few (arms manufacturers etc) at the cost of the lives of young men from generally underpriviliged backgrounds who often can't find work anywhere else. The theme isn't- never again, no more war- peace for all time as it was when it startes bac in 1918, its 'we must honour those who protected our nation' when in reality those who are dying out there now are protecting the interests of the few.

there isn't even one tiny protest in the whole country concerning this.
i find this much more shocking than the fact, that one freak wearing stockings does some wierd thing.

also. you don't have to be a top ''anarchist'' to question this parade.

P.S: unlike sir genevieve i don't claim to be an anarchist.

shit... didn't i say i'm not going to discuss?

thats true, but look at WWI and WWII, the interest there was to stop an invasion of our country. Nowadays its to gain more control, Iraq, Afghanistan.. etc.. The government and system are tnucs, and the fact that David Cameron was in Saudi Arabia only 3 days ago selling them Typhoon Fighter jets shows what a piece of shit he and the government is, but respect must be paid to the men and women who fought to preserve a future for us, not for the government, or queen, but for themselves, their families and communities back home. Having the bravery to face that horror aswell, man, i can't even wrap my head around it.

This guy dressed like that every day, that's his go-to outfit. Was actually skating 'with' him on Friday, in the sense that he turned up and rode around like he does, trying wack flatground bonelesses and weak shit.

Never seen his face, bet he's gutted, if he tries wear his freaky gear any more he'll be battered at every corner he goes around.

Genevieve, is your issue with the armed forces themselves?

lol the armed forces cause about 10 million times more suffering daily than this guy riding a fucking skateboard did.

agreed with most of the stuff said by vulvavibration and genevieve in here.

the fact that we even need "help for heroes" and all that bullshit is a complete joke, especially when the government hides behind it to distract from the fact that THEY don't spend enough on looking after war vets. the government will talk about honouring our war veterans out of one side of its mouth and then disparage people who are unemployed, homeless or addicted to drugs on the other when often they will be war vets who are like that BECAUSE they went to war.

as for World War I, the governments of europe should be fucking ashamed to even speak of it, let alone use it to justify more pointless adventures abroad.

what's a bigger insult to the war dead of 1914-1918, this guy on a skateboard or david cameron wearing a poppy while trying to flog arms to foreign governments?

You're right, there's no need for ad hominens. Sorry.

But don't spam my inbox. I really couldn't be bothered to get into some silly back and forth.
teamhobson wrote:Genevieve, is your issue with the armed forces themselves?
Shit, the more I typed the more I realized I have a complex view on the army. To keep it short, I realize that some countries need an 'army' (just like a large business may need a security force). But I don't like the idea of government being in charge of an army because government cares more for what the people who fund it want (and I'm not talking about taxes) than what citizens want.

And I personally know some soldiers who've said they got into the army because they want to get into battle. Not all of them are like that but it happens. And I generally don't like the idea of 'nationalism', where you protect some people because they HAPPEN to be born within a certain border, but get a medal for blowing up enough people who are born outside of that line.

Dont you think he could have 'protested' in a more mature manner, and perhaps done it in a way that would really show the evil government what was what as opposed to making himself look like a twat and pissing people off?
And by people, i mean civilians, who were there to show respect and might not actually have any association with the government.

Yeah, I agree, people need to remember those who died back in WW1, though not for the reasons you say. They should be remembered for the way they were lied to and led into a completely pointless Imperialist War where they laid down their lives by the thousands. The message should be one of a joint remembrance as well as an apology to the families of those who have lost their lives fighting such pointless wars down the ages but instead it's become a legitimisation of those wars instead and while I can see the attraction in naming those dead as heroes rather than as victims but really it just allows the armed forces to keep on making the same decisions with no reprisals.

What's also a bit scary is the way its almost beyond reproach in the country, I mean if I went and told someone down the street I didn't agree with Remembrance day I'd probably get beaten up.
