I would never put the reverb directly on the kick insert but as a send it works well. As everyone already said, it's just a matter of filtering out the lows of the reverb to stop any low frequency phasing.

declaring something a no-no is a way of boxing in whole collectives of musicians, creating patterns that grow stale quickly and open up niches other people will gladly fill by distancing themselves (and thereby creating new no-no's) as much as possible from said stale patterns.
rinse and repeat.

rules don't work when they're just there without explanation.
once you know why it's a bad idea to put reverb on a kickdrum you can decide when it's time to break the rules.

I've personally never put reverb on a kick insert and was happy with the results when I was finished. So it's just something I never do.

Because there are obviously some rules in music making which can't be broken under any circumstances.

The only potential trouble you're going to run into putting reverb on a kick is all the bass frequencies in stereo which can make stuff sound wonky. But if you're using kick reverb in a frequency range where it fits without being muddy or obfuscating the sub energy or whatever and you can do whatever you want.

You lot should care more about the reverb aux. EQ it to taste, multiband compressor + stereo imager to mono any <500hz content and add a bit of body to it, sidechain it slightly if you are using long tails on everything, distort it for more harmonics, stuff like that.

I hear reverb on skrillex' kicks sometimes. Gets kinda drowned out when all the midrange kicks in/ he removes it, but it's in that San Diego VIP thing for example. :)
I remember hearing it in some other tunes aswell from other artists, can't remember what tunes and stuff tho..
