always makes me cringe a little when people come with their romantic idea of dancehall, when they didn't even experience it on their own.
I'd aim for that proper element, and also to completely expose it to what it used to be. It's got so much bad vibes about it, the artists they've taken it somewhere else – before it used to be about some big vibes party, going drinking, you know, everyone's with a girl and you're happy. But they took it to this gangsta thing, anti-this and anti-that
aside from the fact that he even remixed those kind of tunes, i don't get the difference to other genres like hip hop or grime and i also don't understand how he gets the idea that these things haven't been a crucial element of dancehall for a very long time.

Finally he speaks :D

But out to the interviewer, i'm just curious, how is Loefah garrulous ? I always thought he kept hush hush as well.

Good interview but it's kind of lame, at least to me, that Coki's just releasing "Light Years" with Blacks on top of it. Bedouins is still a mental tune so I'm definitely gonna pick it up.

I meant in personality rather than public face; he might not be keen on interviews, but face to face (and in the few interviews he has done) he's never lost for words or short of opinions.

Interesting read and intriguing mind. It's a weird balance to stay underground and keep the respect of the culture you helped build and helped build you, and being maximally profitable. I don't think that should keep artists of his caliber from venues that play guys like Flux if that's where the money is at. That just exposes another side to a different audience IMO. Coki will always be Coki.

Well Kris from Rhythm Response did compile some albums for Soul Jazz, and he's now the label manager for Don't Get It Twisted, so I guess that must have been an early attempt to set something up that didn't come to anything... whether they had Soul Jazz backing I don't know.

BTW - while you all are on The Arts Desk, don't forget to check the Kode 9 and Mary Anne Hobbs interviews if you haven't already!
