I've just been doing some headphone research and it came down to

HD280 Pro (Circa £95)
ATH-M50 (Circa £130)
SRH840 (Circa £145)

I went for the ATH-M50's in the end after much deliberation, they arrive tomorrow.

Here's a frequency response graph comparing these three:

What clinched it for me was numerous reports that they sounded the most like a monitor mix, weren't too fatiguing, decent flat response for the price range and wouldn't be bad for a DJ gig too.

I've got a pair, they're pretty good all rounders. They just arrived recently so I haven't had much time to acclimatize to them yet. They were crushing my head but I stuffed the earpads with some extra cotton through the holes in the back and stretched the headband out and they're more comfortable now.

I also just bought a pair of the previously mentioned HD595s today for 70 bucks including shipping. Hoping that between the two of them I can get a decent picture of what's going on in a mix.
