Seriously - and I think most pplz around here would agree - anything that only exists because of celebrity endorsement is very probably NOT going to be designed for production, and IS being marked up just because of the name.

AKG's are fine for many, but you don't need to buy the Tiesto model. TRUST. Not only that, the Amazon reviews aren't very inspiring for the build quality.

Pretty standard. Cheapest pair of Bose over-the-ear headphones they carried. I think I picked em up for like $80. It was before I started producing and I've used them ever since. I know a lot of people will say it's real important to have top quality gear, but in all honesty I haven't noticed a significant difference between my cheap headphones and a $400 pair (and I have worn friends' $400 pairs before). What do you think of Bose AE2? Are they decent quality? Cause I honestly don't know.

Bose makes a quality product (I own sound docks and earbuds by them) but same story, there not going to give a flat response.

I recently listened to a set of Presonus monitors at Guitar Center...don't recall the model...but they sounded fantastic for the price. Nice stereo image, the music sounded present and alive. I also listened to some Mackies they had as well as KRK Rokit 6s (these were similar in price/size/freq response)...the Presonous kicked both their asses. The Mackie's sounded really dull and the KRKs sounded harsh/distorted.

I wanted to buy a pair of monitoring headphones but I didn't have much money to spend. I was looking for a low priced headphones such as AKG K44; Audio-Tehnica ATH-M30 and other crap I found on the internet. But here in Serbia only "good" headphones I could found were AKG k44 and these Presonus HD7. I knew that AKG is more popular and known but I picked presonus ones these because they look godlike. And I didn't regret it!

The sound overall is "refreshing". The highs are there and they sound amazing (the first thing I noticed), but the sound maybe lacks a little bit of bass.
Really long cable with gold plated connector. I must say the headphones are really durable and comfortable. Only down thing is that it gets uncomfortable after an hour if you are wearing glasses, because of the pressure of the phones.

No, it's gimmicky wank. Buy headphones sold on their quality of sound not by attaching the name of an incredibly overhyped dj to them

rocking sony mdr7506, never fails me when it comes to mixdown, pretty reliable flat sound. Also very comfy.

If you buy those, buy them from a trusted place, many fakes are around and you can be tricked easily.

Not Grados for mixing or listening to bass music. But their SR60i and SR80i are really good value for cheap. They're a lot of people's first foray into audiophile quality cans, but I'd say they're better for rock music or something mid focused.

I totally agree. There a niche product, just like Beets. Great for listening to live instrument based music, but not so good at producing on.

They make top notch reference headphones though. If money were no issue, I'd mix on those definitely.

I just got some V Moda Crossfade's and I think they're AMAZING!
They look awesome, have good isolation and sound stage and the bass is hyped just enough to not be overpowering but still bang!
I am seriously in love w/ them.

I've done quite some 'research' on the subject and if I had to recommend two models, without getting into amps I'd say:
- Audio Technica ath m-50
- Beyerdynamic DT990 (low impedance)

Not the cream of the crop, but more than great for the price. I've heard both, but own neither. I use DT770's, but they are closed
so not ideal for mixing.

I've just lost (or had stolen?!) my HD25ii's after over 10 years of use (they were a bit like triggers broom though- new cables, pads, etc). Excellent monitor headphones I'd always recommend for DJing.

But I spend a lot more time using headphones while making tunes and commuting and only the occasional bit of DJing nowadays so am looking for something with good audio quality (doesn't have to be flat, it's overrated!) closed-back (I still want noise isolation), comfortable for hours of producing at a time, strong....narrowed it down to: Beyerdynamic DT770 or Audio Technica ATH-M50S. Any thoughts?

DT770's are basically your best option. Strong, not flat, comfortable, closed and high quality.

Excess bass though with a big notch. I've got a pair of M50s coming this week so maybe I'm biased. Their hyped bass is a lot less than the DT700s. Really can't go wrong though, both sets of cans are quite good and used a lot.
