Who gets lonely in the studio?

In terms of getting lonely, not at all. One of the reasons I like certain types of music so much is that for me, it's escapism. So much of my day is spent around other people, working with them, being in meetings, on phone calls etc etc, that I enjoy doing something where I'm shut away in my studio with the door closed working on a tune by myself. It's a relief.


In terms of relationships vs. productions, some of the stuff I've read is jokes My missus loves the fact that I produce, so much so that she gave me the office in our apartment in Spain to use as my studio. Plus the time that I'm producing etc, she's usually spending doing working on her publications or studying for her next bit of doctor exam/training. So it works both ways

I suppose that's a personal thing. Some people just can't cooperate with other people. Not really because they have some communication problems or something but because they are introverts/individualists b nature. Another variant is that you probably have your own vision of music that differs from those of other musicians. You can try to cope with this problem or just leave it be. After all, if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself To me, searching for fellow musicians is equal to searching for a mate: you have to come a loooooooong way before you find "the one".

In this article they say that one can make music individually, and I think dubstep is the right genre for solo recording because all you need is the right software. If I were you, I would stop bothering about that studio loneliness issue and just do what I want.

This is a good question for a forum like this. I've been producing my own solo tracks for years now. Every once in awhile i'll have a friend add some live electronic drums or guitar but this isn't really a colab as much as it is me telling them what i'd like them to do and them doing it. I will occasionally get the urge to want to work with someone on my same production level. I've even gone as far as looking to craigslist a few times to no avail. I'd be interested to see how the work flow would go with someone else maybe produce an EP and see where it goes if anywhere. But I hold a full time day job, I'm married, I have a kid. I'm honestly lucky to get in the production/studio time that I do. I feel like if I was to try to work with someone else it would only slow down my work flow and then i'd get less done and what I did get done wouldn't be ONLY mine to do as I see fit with. But to answer the question YES, I do get studio loneliness sometimes as well. However usually after I finish up a new track that i'm into that loneliness is usually replaced with my desire to get back in there and do it again on my own! Maybe someday...

That's pretty much where I'm at. The GF likes the time I spend in the studio for similar reasons. She has stuff she likes to do on her own.

we are a duo, we started independently but merged and now we produce together.

I find that we spend a LOT less time fiddling and getting lost in patches... time is more productive and focused on arrangement, automation, progression, etc

we still get to do a lot of our sound design and creative thinking independently so when we sit down for a session we have patches and ideas ready to go usually

Nah, much like skateboarding or whatever other hobby, it's a way for me to just get away and do my own thing. That being said I'd love to collab with someone, the only people I know who are into production have a lot less knowledge on the whole thing than I do. It makes it a little more difficult because we can't really bounce ideas back and forth because they've got no idea how to make their ideas a reality, and I end up producing a track 'for' them rather than 'with' them, if you get me.
