Didnt see the end of your post :u: but that is also on par with that more snarl sort of bass. I sort of the same automation with the feedback sometimes, the patch description in fm8 would be awesome!

Can we just take a moment to remember that this guy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWIJUTKw6n0

is the only reason we have Feed Me.

I Think that this thread should explore more than just normal dance music (Zomboy, Feed Me, etc) because there's just so much more to be learned.

Very much agreed man, we should do a growl deconstruction or something and all try post attempts or growl battles... I dont know. Id put an effort in a thread but im not sure of anyone else.

I think we can afford to speak in general terms, since FM synthesizers are similar to an extent.

For instance, It seems as though A sine wave is the foundation of most good FM synths. A plethora of other waves are fed into it, but the sine is the hub.

*edit* We'll probably get into more advanced effects available inside FM8, but that's what vst's are for. :corndance:

Its okay to just have sytrus. They aren't that different, if you read my post earlier.
They just have different construction styles.

I can teach you all a little bit about growling in FM terms if you all are interested.
I've studied FM for 2-ish years now. It'll be a long post and a few videos home made, by me, but i'll do it for you guys if this post gets enough responses, im not going to do it for just nothing.

Thanks for the offer but I actually know quite a bit about FM synthesis (down to the math that makes it work).

I used to have an illegally obtained (see "pirate") copy of FM8 but I got guilty and deleted all of my software obtained in such ways and bought most all of it legally. I like Sytrus more actually I just hate missing out on all of this FM synthesis fun.

:cornlol:

For reference here is a track I remixed and added some of my FM growls to:

It would be more about FM8.
And the concepts would go more towards the vocalization side of FM synthesis, rather than the sound construction.
How to get SMANS and Zomboy methodical stuff.

Anyone else interested just let me know. I do know a lot about it. :)

TALK-WAH ALL TEH WAY MAN111!!1

Just kidding, vocalization like how? Equalizing out formants? Peak splitting with actual FM synthesis to achieve vocal sounding patches?

I KNOW. God, that effect. Cuts like all bands except 200-250 hz -_- YOIYOIYOIYOIY

Its more about the emulating of the human voice via FM synthesis. Creating not words, but utterances and stuff, and using the knowledge on designing certain waves, we can apply them to bass, and get a more humanized vowel sound out of bass, rather than just a mushy mess with EQ formants. Nasty artifacts.

Vocoding is kind of fun for actual words. I do not like it for regular growls though, this is the reason why a lot of Seamless's songs bother me. He goes about synthesis kind of strangely some times. Haha.

Modulating a sine at a ratio of 1 with a formant at a ratio of .5 and a triangle at a ratio of .5 then automating the formant and triangle volumes is a neat way to get growls that sound vocally, obviously those exact settings might sound like mush but if tweak them enough and add another high pitch modulator you can remake most all growl sounds.

If you apply external filters and distortion after that you can achieve even more types growls.

One thing id like to know in Fm is how to make sort of talking basses like D-jahsta. I cant find anything on this guy and i just love his stuff! Not the machine gun basses because they sound like trash in general. His growl are pretty different :6:

I AM THE SAME
YO DUDE SKRILLEX IS BROSTEP. NAH HE ROBOSTEP, NAH HE ELECTROSTEP, NAH HE BROSTEP.
I'm the same. Fuck it all, seriously.

Brostep is the faggiest term i have ever heard. Who the fuck eve thinks up "brostep." Why would you call it "bro" step. How does that have anything to do with it. Jesus.

God. Brostep. How is that a real genre. I've known dubstep since it was dub reggae. I thought dubstep was a stretch when it was coined. NOW BROSTEP???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Now all the new people to the scene (Noobs who just found out about dubstep a few days ago) are going to think BROSTEP IS A REAL TERM. And now its getting spread around. UGH.

Only real terms to me:
Dubstep.
Darkstep (for more brutal stuff)

I new if i said something about sub genres we would get off on a tangent lol  Tbh is all fucking dubstep ahah When listen to music i dont classify them into categories such as halfstep techmech unltra hop pop crap step. I just listen to the fucking music man, none of this shit that everything falls into a category. Its ethier dubstep,Drum and bass, Glitch-hop or garage. Nothing else.... :u:

End of sub genre rants, for now :H: now lets work something out with some of this dark/brutal step sheit bru.

Im not sure were to start? Not sure if is a lot of outter synth processing or it just done in reason :corncry: . I feel though reason has everything, need to make full sounding basses out of nothing!

Been trying to make these wonky vowel basses for ages now and no such luck.... Im pretty sure its all reason synth but think it can be done in fm8.
