I'd be tempted, but you can usually tell when someone's had them whitened and it looks fake.
Not saying it's a particularly bad thing, but it's more a psychological thing, I don't want to have fake looking teeth, even though I understand there's nowt much wrong with it.

Brush mine twice a day but they never gleam.

Dentist informed me I have the whitest teeth naturally which isn't very common :D
This, basically.

Brush twice, mouthwash twice, floss once. You're all good.
Not this.

If you naturally have crazy white teeth, you can't comment on the subject at all and should
be banned. Also, you can brush and floss all you want but your teeth sure as hell won't get any whiter.

I fell on my mug twice as a kid. No serious long term effect, but there's some color differences.
Thinking about it.

Missing the point...saying that hygiene > aesthetics at the end of the day.

Because your teeth are naturally off-white, I have a chip in my front tooth and have to have it capped every few years, hence how I know I have the naturally the whitest teeth, because of the filling that the dentist had to use to match up.

I probably pay maybe £50, Not for mental white but to whack it up a few notches.

^Is that a realistic expectation of price when it costs about £40 to have them 'cleaned'?

Cleaning also removes plaque which is damaging to the health of your teeth and gums.

Yeah but does £50 sound right for whitening or is Johnlenham saying that's all he's prepared to pay?

From that Ebay page:
Do not let the gel get in contact with the gums or tongue
:cornlol: For something that you're putting on your teeth, that sounds a bit risky to me.

It's just domestos and a gum shield, it carries the same precautions as breast implants made from industrial silicone.

Thread is more about aesthetics imo, maybe there's nothing wrong with OPs dental hygiene.

Pedro, isn't getting it capped again every few years because of the coloring as well?
I have a permanent cap.

Nah, it's on a front tooth so it just wears down (doest help that I use a bicarbonate soda toothpaste), the dentist has to use the correct filling colour that matches your tooth's natural colour, once it's done, it is unrecognisable.

I made the thread because i'm interested to find out if the American obsession with dental hygiene to the point of cosmetic enhancement has permeated the psyche of the rest of the world/ninjas and, if it has, to what degree.
I'm also interested to see if people have had it done would they consider having any other work done. So yes, it's more about aesthetics. Completely so, unless i'm missing something about whiter teeth being healthier.

Unfortunately, so far, 96% of the people who've replied haven't had it done. I'm still surprised it's so one-sided.. Maybe it goes to show that (ex) Dubstep fans are comfortable with yellow gnashers.

Teeth whitening is just sold on the false premise that white teeth are natural. In truth, teeth are slightly yellowish offwhite at best and most people wouldn't be able to match the natural colour of their teeth against a set of template teeth.

Whitening treatments are also more likely to weaken teeth in the long run anyway.

But say your teeth are stained from drinks or cigarettes, you could get them whitened to the natural shade. Or is that called something other than whitening? Brightening perhaps.
