I'm not talking about the musics own quality despite it CLEARLY being some of his worst bits ( I love all of it, dont get me wrong), but the collector aspect which I find highly offensive and wrong. It's bordering on merchandise.

No, but see this as an invitation to dig in to his other work. It's not up to discussion

Re: Aphex Twin‘s Caustic Window Kickstarter
it's fetischising all the external factors of that product
he might not even be involved in other aspects than deeming it unfit for release ten years ago (?).
I mean there's no artistic problem with analord as such, it's great, but it's not as revolutionary or influential as experiencing the time when some of his other stuff came out like druqsz or richard j james or just debuting with an almost entirely atmospheric album at that time.
Analord proved nothing and every track seemed like a sequel to previous work.
All the styles/ or aesthetic risk takings there, had already been tried or carried out.
The proof is in how it was presented to a group of followers or fans, instead of the music scene as a whole. It's silly to take that position when even fucking Madonna and the rest of the world already recognised his work. It's a sign that they knew at least the geeks would lap it up. It's not like his other stuff was pop either.

Re: Aphex Twin‘s Caustic Window Kickstarter
Analord is by far some of his best. It and Druqs are my favorites. It's just really well written, it sounds great too. I don't see why their needs to be a risk. It's just got some of the best melodic content he's written and I love the sounds of all the hardware he owns. Some of which doesn't get heard many other placeshubb wrote:I'm not talking about the musics own quality despite it CLEARLY being some of his worst bits ( I love all of it, dont get me wrong), but the collector aspect which I find highly offensive and wrong. The collector aspect thing is bullshit too.It was a series of vinyl Eps. So what loads of labels do that? It's all available digitally now too. In fact there were tracks made for it not on the vinyl added to the digital releases too. So it's easy as hell to get.
Re: Aphex Twin‘s Caustic Window Kickstarter
There was the chosen lords cd but if you go on the rephlex site you can buy all of them plus more unreleased tracks as downloads too.

It's not fair having me go through all those points again.
I don't think you read it properly wolf.

Like this, I simply don't believe you even see it that way.I don't see why their needs to be a risk.

I did I think you're just being pretentious. It's better than most of his early stuff. Also you're "Just for collectors thing" still isn't true.

It's not available in the same format- it's aimed at geeks. No discussion there.wolf89 wrote:I did I think you're just being pretentious. It's better than most of his early stuff. Also you're "Just for collectors thing" still isn't true.

The being pretentious part, no doubt I'm a proponent of that sometimes, proud of it.
Imo the risks as I've put it previously, was basicly the inspiration behind most of the music we listen to, if that elevates it or not in an objective context where we discard history, is up to the individual or down to taste, to decide. So it's fair to feel either way, that's not the issue. The issue is how it was presented and on what basis, they decided to aim an aphex twin (masterpiece) at the people that already had that oppinion, that's a sign of a lesser product imo.
You could argue ofcourse that it was a comment on only releasing albums, I see it as part cash in.
The tuss stuff was also as good imo, despite all the decoy biz.
