Only I can say I love u
Understand our similarities
Strong bonds hold us together

Is this altercation a reality
Someone tell me

Good riddance the media
Average men are heroes
Yesterday is an illusion

yeah, I suppose so
but hasn't the drive for ratings in the big cities been this rapacious for a long time?
(i.e. the future is now)

What I enjoyed about Nightcrawler was Jake's character,
not the obvious stuff like moving bodies to get good shots
but his commitment beyond law or ethics to his calling,
his unthwartable ambition & ability to suck others into his spin.
I sat there chuckling at his creepiness & upfront callousness
& rarely thought how good a job Guilenhal (whatever) was doing.
To me it was primarily about characters and the LA dream
and, only to give us an opportunity to discuss it, did I consider any message.

I get that completely

But it's in a (imo) european context/definition of political ideology, very much a case of him and Rene Russo - being ultra libertaryan. That if there's a product to sell and it has a collective effect on people, morals can go second or out the window. Obviously the film wants to paint that as just being a sociopath, but imo the truth is that it exists as an ideology that is expressed in our time, especially in new media or politics.

But yeah it's nothing new. The problem is that we don't get to see why money is enough to make them do what they do. The film just sort of expects us to agree with gains being an excuse... and thats why the films strongpoint is the bit that makes it become a character study instead. .. but imo that is misunderstood and kind of the usual immaturity of films in a hollywood context showing itself. It's basically the same kind of shock value argument that the film revolves around that they get wrong in the film itself.

hmmm
don't quite get what you mean
but sounds right somehow because there's something being said thru their relationship
other than benefaction, sexual attraction to power and acquiescence to gaul.

yeah its too thin... not exactly abstract but just too vague ( I mean to warrant his whole sthick if it's not just him being a bit of a psycho). .

then again that is worthy of a story, it's just not the best balance to the political side of the film..

^^picked up in public baths
and spreading out onto the soles and heels
whereupon sheaves of skin come loose at the edges
and can be torn off

hardly a pluperfect analogy

although, just as the fungal world inexorably spreads,
so do amoral practices in the absence of bleaching disdain.

^too thin? too vague? political side?
you sure that it's didactic?

no i mean it tries to escape being that, but to me thats just the most relevant part of the film

dont get me wrong gyllenhall is interesting to watch but then it's more just a film about being a lad and thats a bit thin too

good film but a bit pop
