o**k has been taken down
its a bit comic though, just imagine those identities doing a criminal investigation for tons of people... they play a bit silly.
Suddenly, there was a terrible roar all around us, and the sky was full with what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, and a voice was screaming:
Holy Jesus. What are these goddamn animals?

it's not that silly. look at the lady that got nailed by riaa recently for over $200k. she was being monitored by the RIAA on her activity on one night back in 2005. that one night of filesharing two years ago's is costing her thousands in legal fee's just to defend herself. of course she'll probably never end up paying the $200k in the long run, but it is a wake up call. interpol and all these agencies have been saying for a while that they've been keeping a database of filesharing activity, and who knows how they'll be using in the near future. as the copyright infringement international agreements start happening, it's going to get more ugly for more people who think that p2p is all fun and games.

media-defender would have little or nothing to do with this I'd imagine - not only was their entire operation breached by hackers and all sorts of correspondence incl private phone calls made public, but their product (as I understand it) is more designed to prevent or corrupt the download process as opposed to having anything to do with the detection/prosecution process.pk- wrote:mediadefender don't fuck about, do they.![]()
I'm glad this site has been taken down - for every person with the attitude "oh I download music but then always buy the record, it's great advertising blah blah etc" there are loads who don't.

Was just about to link this, what a result!
Babylon achieving something positive for once.
I spoke to the BPI about 3 months ago regarding OinK and they said they had an insider account. I bet that was key to the investigation.

Seriously tho, anyone pirating the majors has my blessing but for gods sake don't ruin the stability of a fledgling scene like dubstep!

dubstep and happy hardcore seem to be the only scenes where people get all upset about filesharing..most people just accept it as part of modern life..its not going away..itll continue to happen and probably even get more popular.Alex Deadman wrote:Was just about to link this, what a result!

I know people might not come out of the shadows for this one..
but how many people here download dubs on soulseek/oink whatever and dont spend lots of time and money on dubstep?
it's very easy to take the moral highground after buyign 2 12"s
ive download bits to show to my mates mainly, so i can get them to come out to the raves, and said people are now addicted
it's often down to the integrity of the person how bad free downloads are, if at all..
none of this PIRATES GO TO HELL etc business helps anyone, unless you mean people who never buy anything, then they are just cocks in general.
ps. why would anyone EVER pay for a major label release, it baffles me, its not like many have incredible must own packaging or will be helping any starving artists

Dubstep wouldn't be where it is today without sites like this, opened this sound up to tens of thousands of people. Don't get me wrong theres plenty of negatives to...Edited: Please don't discuss what albums are available on p2p. It's against our rules. .....this is the only thing I've really got against these sites and im sure they'd still be going if they had rules against this. I used to have an oink account, the only thing i ever downloaded of it were things that people didn't do digital releases for or old 2 step/garage stuff that you can find anywhere (it was amazing for this and now have no idea how I'm gonna get any of these amazing tunes!), don't think anyone could have a problem with this....
All this hate is so stupid. Dubstep/electronica and all forms of isolated culturally specific music owe more than they will ever know to these kind of sites.

Tv-links never hosted any content itself, it was just links to video content hosted on Google Video, Youtube, etc. That's the difference.RickyRicardo wrote:
u mean payed channels getting broadcasted through the internet? thats so illegal as downloading stuff from oink!
dont see the difference
The content is still out there....just one less site to organize it all.
Oink didn't host content either. Torrents don't work that way.
that's a great article. Genuinely highlights the contradiction many people face when trying to consider the wider issues. Thisrelaks wrote:This basically sums it up for me. OiNk pwned
is absolutely correct. I can't believe the amount of bluster Radiohead have made about their new LP.If Radiohead (the British rock band who achieved worldwide success via a long-term mutually-beneficial relationship with a major record label) were truly radical, they would have posted their new album as a BitTorrent file with a PayPal & bank account link for the fans who felt like paying. Not hosting it on some weird website with an awkward interface & requiring credit card info…
