I hadn't ever even heard about anyone called Commodo until I went to awards few days ago and saw him nominated in many categories. :D Can't say anything for last year, since weren't around that much back then.

Since I'm into og-dubstep aka stuff like Burial, Vex'd, Mala, Distance, but at the same time i'm into brostep (or more like was, since everybody went to shitty edm trap), drum & bass (neuro, liquid, jump up), hardstyle, rock, rap/hip-hop, metal etc. it's pretty hard to keep track of everything, especially, when you have to hack your way through thick masses of shit these days.

Well what is shit depends on your taste. I don't consider all tracks that have rich midrange content or more loudness than usual as shit. I'm just not that interested in music with no variation, no melodies, no musical content, no matter how vibey, deep, heavy, tearing, sick, bassy, dirty blablabla it is.

Best free release should be a category so Commodo can win more awards :6:

thanks yo's.

i did talk to pete before creating the thread, and the problem is that some of the admins/owners (the ones who ran the awards in past years) are not very involved here anymore, so they weren't gonna do it. pete said if i put it together, he would make it happen, so that's what we did. pete is the most active mod by far. big ups to him for sure. he made the sub-forum and polls, definitely wouldn't have happened if it weren't for pete.

I don't think it turned out that bad. could have been better if people were more enthusiastic about it during the nomination process. there were a decent amount of nominations but more would have helped. What problems do people have with it? It may be too late for some things but if you see an issue, just say something, maybe it can be fixed.

The biggest issue really is that we couldn't make the special page with multiple polls on it where you just click "next...next....next" to flip through each award like there was in the past. I think we would have needed dubway or someone in order to do that. but the sub-forum threads are a decent alternative.

i just hope everyone votes at this point. :4:

I think a banner at the top (that Phrex plate has been sold out for months now...) would've helped. also, I was under the impression everybody could nominate just one act / tune / instance per category; would've gone a bit crazier on the name-dropping else. also, maybe next time limit nominees to, I don't know, 6 entries per category, but have 6 in every single one? I know it may be hard, expecially regarding new producers, radiostations etc., and if the nominations ain't coming in... the awards last year were a bit shit in that regard, loads of people who would've deserved better didn't even get nominated because we just forgot about them (I'm under the impression nominations were only possible for maybe a week?).

also, there are far too many categories... maybe we should tone it down again a bit? could do without all the 160-180 categories imho. these guys have large enough platforms elsewhere.

anyway, big up Jags and Pete for setting this thing up!

thank you. definitely lots of things to think about for next time, and we should be more prepared and do it as best we can. more nominations would have solved many of these problems. for example with the "Best Dub" category, I think I only had 7 nominations, and only two of them were mentioned twice. So I could have said "we're only taking nominations that have more than one mention", but this would result in only two choices, and since I had 7 total, which one should I have deleted? Seems unfair to just arbitrarily pick one. There were a lot of instances where I made judgment calls like that.

likewise, seems unfair to have the categories for 120-140, but leave out the 160-180 crew. i couldn't do that to rayman and terpit  wanted to give everyone a chance to rep their favorite music (within reason).

yeah but 120-140 represents Keysound and the likes. and they don't have a home aside from DSF. 160-180 guys have DoA and DNBA and all that.
