I've got the resolv 80a's so I was thinking about getting the matching subwoofer - I'm definitely getting it now.

Set it to the -3db point on your satellite speakers cutoff.
not really sure how to do that, they don't have any dials on the back similar to the sweep one on the sub
Sorry mate, was at work, only one pc with net, have to be v quick.

The 3dB point is one of the spec's speakers are given, kind of defines its roll off. Eg Mackies 824 -3dB point is 37 Hz
From the mackie site wrote:Frequency response is verifiably flat from 39Hz-20kHz, with a 3dB down point at 37Hz.
Check the manual, you might get the 3dB point for the satelites.

When you add two sounds of the same level the overal level increases by 3dB. (Im an acoustic consultant ;) ) so if you add your sub in and up to the 3dB point you get a flat response in theory.

In practice, looking at your photo, your roomacoustics will be all over the place and the sub will change massively all over the room.

So just twiddle until it sounds best using a tune you know well.

Cheers

Well, that ^^ owns my answer. Use cool edit or something which can generate sine waves at definable-in-Hz intervals, run down through the frequencies (this is enlightening in itself!!) until they start getting quieter.... then home in with your ears and find that dropoff! then kick the sub in at said point. (3dB is a level difference you need to know, but mucking about with sines is illuminating, as I said.)

leave it at 0, i can't see why you would need to reverse the phase with your setup

one other question... how you got that lot wired up? are the small speakers pluged into the sub or direct into your soundcard?

If they're plugged into your sub then it should have a crossover and if that's the case i would set the control on the sub as high as 110-130 Hz so that those poor little fellas might stand some chance of keeping up with that beast!

hope this helps

I ordered the Tapco SW10 last week (should be here this week hopefully), but fecking hell mate, that made me laugh out loud to
Its MASSIVE !

Now Im scared because the Tapco is essentially the same deal (bit cheaper now and lower frq response though), there are lots of articles about placing that thing in the right place as well.

Hope you get it all set up well !

p.s
Definately worth having the Sub to complement the desktop monitors, just get those levels good

pk- :

Yo, my SW10 arrived today, and it has a 10" woofer but the size of the unit is considerably smaller than the Samson, so if anyone else is limited on space...try out the Tapco (£100 to).
