ok people
this night was ABSOLUTE MUCKTION!!!
man, this is how we shock out in the south west, get me?!
massive shouts to Pinch & Blazey for yet another amazing night, in the face of no small adversity....
yeh, fate was not smilin on the Subloaded boys when it sent the council down again to complain about noise at the venue....
this resulted in a limiter being put on the system, which hampered the earlier sets a bit - having said that, when it kicked in the tunes were obviously ace....out to Joker on first and repping his Plastician endorsed grimey beats - some belters in there.....out to Headhunter too who unleashed some spanking new stuff that sounded utterly haunting and atmospheric...and he dropped a Tech Itch bit that had everyone up and going 'who the *** is this?!'....top stuff to come from Ascension Records for sure (Ascension #1 in stores soon)...
ok, so Plastic stepped up with....who's this?....could it be....Joseph Junior Adenuga.....the one and only....goonthen goonthen! YUP! its Skeppy!
despite not touching mic too much in the set, when he did the crowd loved it...also had time to drop his succint summing up of the male to female ratio in the dance 'bare ballbag in the rave tonight!'...tho as far as i could see there were lots of gyal skangin as there always is in brizzle town....Plastic tore it up with a mixture of uptempo bits and some surprisingly half-step stuff too....
next up in come Digi Mystikz.....here we f**kin go! after the now traditional 2 or 3 roots / lovers selections the boys got down to business...with Loefah drawing for some released classics to warm up...had the crowd baying with Horror Show, Goat Stare and so on....still sounding devastating! Then its the familiar tag-team flow...Mala drawing for those upbeat almost-4x4-but-not-quite-future-techno-jazz rhythms that he's been coming up with recently! i wish i had some titles...but u know the ones....stunning....with Loe dropping Mud, Ruff Beats and Left Right Left, the combination was perfect....just as u were getting dragged into the riptide of Loe's bass excavations, som Mala beat would lift u right out....sublime....and amongst all this of course, the mighty Coki riddims - Earth A Run Red, Torture, Shattered - all causing riotous response on the dancefloor.......MIGHTY! theres nothing quite like a DMZ set, and theres nowhere quite like the Black Swan! Nuff said....
OK, now we're getting into the swing.....Vex'd take to the stage foir thier dex and efx set and jamie and roly begin with a crazy Sizzla (i think) half time stepping vex'd mash-up thing that gets everyone moving....into some fractured ambient interlude...then another fresh riddim...if this is a taste of the 2nd LP then...well, we're all in for a treat.....after 20 mins or so of laptop and efx madness jamie drops some plates, and boy what plates they are! Loe's frankly astonishing mix of Nasty Crew's 'lights' (THIS TUNE MUST SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY!! IT IS THE FUTURE OF GRIME!!!), Loe's mix of 3rd Choice...ok, to those have just heard the intro - or not heard it at all......it is SO epic - Loefah on some minimal stripped down clonking Photek b-line action.....forthcoming on Ital - SICK....with some vocal grime and some vex'd classics (angel / smartbomb) the set was one of the freshest i've heard since....last time i saw Vex'd play! out to all those that were digging the crazy krautrock meets black metal meets my bloody valentine tune... (i kid u not!).....sounds like Neu jamming with Loefah with Darkthrone on vibes....
and to top it all off, (this is getting silly by this point!) man like Youngsta rolls onto stage - Task in tow.....well, the crowd didn'd die out, the stamina gang was in full effect for one of the most vibrant sets i've ever heard Youngsta play (he is one of my fave all time djs btw)....the combination of deep deep stringladen D1 cuts, and the stupid LFO wobbling of the Skream cuts made for a stunning set...- all brought to head with the airing of 'System' by Loefah.....what a TUNE!!!! i know its 'old' (hardly but u know what i mean!) - but this is one of the heaviest riddims i have ever heard.....lets hope it sees the light of day - truly a system tune....
well, after all that there was only time to say goodbyes and get a completely MENTAl taxi drive who took ud thru 3 red lights and started saying 'ok goooooooo!' everytime he accelerated.....bare madness!!
OUT TO ALL WHO REPPED!!!! YOUR TIME!!! I HAVE BEEN AT WORK ALL DAY!!!!! I AM GONNA GO AND FALL OVER!!! PEACE OUT!!!!"

nice report !
that spot was quality. it meant i could lean on the speaker and meditate proper. although i swear whenever i do this people think i'm sleeping.
at leeds when i was sitting down, bobbing my head with my right hand in the air, eyes closed; think that freaked a few people out.
hahah my taxi driver was bizarrely friendly and idosyncratic. the best one's are though. i didn't realise how close i was to the bus station otherwise i would have walked.
